<p>Position Title: 1.0 FTE High School Choral Teacher</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>Reports to: Building Principal and/or Department Head</p> <p>Terms of Employment: 184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.</p> <p>August 25, 2025 start date. Unit A 25-26 Salary Range</p> <p>Lexington Public Schools is looking for an experienced, dynamic choral and music educator to join our Lexington High School team. LHS has a long history of quality choral programs. LHS Choirs have been featured at ACDA and state music education conferences, have travelled on multiple international and domestic tours, regularly host choral artists in residence, and commission new choral works. Students in the choral program perform a wide range of challenging choral music representative of many styles, languages, and time periods, including at least one major work each year. A typical season of repertoire includes selections from the Western canon, folk and multicultural music, vocal jazz, pop and musical theater. LHS currently has five curricular choirs with a total enrollment of approximately 200 students.</p> <ul> <li>Courses Taught: </li><li>Instructs grade 9-12 students in one (auditioned) honors-level chorus, one non-auditioned chorus, and two music theory courses. </li><li>Shares in organizing and executing an after school a cappella program. </li><li>Professional Duties: </li><li>Works collaboratively and in partnership with the other full-time HS Choral Teacher. </li><li>Works collaboratively and in partnership with the part-time choral accompanist. </li><li>Plans and executes approximately twenty after-school rehearsals, performances and engagements a year. </li><li>Attends department, building, and Professional Learning Community meetings. </li><li>Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils. </li><li>Serves on staff committees as required. </li><li>Completes all administrative tasks effectively and efficiently. </li><li>Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. </li><li>Participates in curriculum development programs as required. </li><li>Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. </li><li>Creates and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects in alignment with the Lexington Public Schools' Performing Arts curriculum. </li><li>Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor. </li><li>Evaluates each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group. </li><li>Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. </li><li>Works cooperatively with elementary and middle school music teachers to build a strong, sequential music program throughout the district. </li><li>Teaching and Classroom Environment: </li><li>Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. </li><li>Differentiates instruction as appropriate. </li><li>Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. </li><li>Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. </li><li>Teaches healthy lifelong vocal technique to adolescents </li><li>Strong piano skills preferred. </li><li>Promotes and expands involvement in the music program. </li><li>Meets the needs of a wide range of participants from beginners to pre-professional musicians </li><li>Additional Responsibilities: </li><li>Has the potential to bring students to district and regional music festivals. </li><li>Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement, if applicable. </li><li>Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with health, attitude, and learning needs. </li><li>Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. </li><li>All other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Job Qualifications:</p> <p>Appropriate MA DESE subject license at the appropriate grade level.</p> <p>Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.</p> <p>Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
