The Pharmacy Technician's primary job function is to prepare and distribute medications. Performs quality control, routine maintenance and other duties as assigned.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required </li><li>Completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required </li></ul> <p>Licensure:</p> <ul> <li>Successful completion of National Qualification test required (PTCB or NHA) </li><li>For Ohio: State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician Registration required </li><li>For Kentucky: State of Kentucky Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration Required </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Pharmacy Technician training program or certification or prior technician work experience required. </li></ul> <p>JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS</p> <p>The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Specific activities may change from time to time</p> <ol> <li> <p>Profiles physician orders in computer system for pharmacist review.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service, answer telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to recognize narcotic discrepancies and perform audits as necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Delivers medications to Meds to Beds patients (in Emergency Room).</p> </li><li> <p>Enters patient charges/credits into computer profile system.</p> </li><li> <p>Checks incoming orders of medications and pharmacy supplies against purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness.</p> </li><li> <p>Reviews patient medication profile to identify medications available through Patient Assistance.</p> </li><li> <p>Contacts drug manufacturer for any application forms needed and/or enrolling patients for various programs over the phone/internet.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs medication reconcilitation by interviewing patients and/or family member to validate home medications.</p> </li><li> <p>Contacts pharmacies, nursing homes, and the Veteran Affairs for a complete list of home medications.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtains necessary income documentation from patients for various programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes applications and obtains prescriptions for each manufacturer's applications. May coordinate with physician regarding and substitutions and obtains signed applications/prescriptions.</p> </li><li> <p>Educates patient on his/her responsibility for re-ordering prescriptions.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates with Purchasing Agent regarding stock levels and items needed to assure adequate inventory.
