<p>Job Description</p> <p>Equine Surgery Technician</p> <p>Fairfield Equine - Newtown, CT</p> <p>Fairfield Equine is excited to welcome a skilled and motivated Equine Surgery Technician to our team in Newtown, Connecticut. We are a multi-doctor equine sports medicine practice offering advanced diagnostics and surgical care. This position is a key part of our surgical team and plays an important role in delivering exceptional patient care.</p> <p>This is a great opportunity for a technician who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and wants to be part of a practice that values teamwork, professionalism, and high-quality veterinary medicine.</p> <p>Schedule</p> <ul> <li>Full-time, Monday-Friday </li><li>Overtime as needed based on surgical caseload </li><li>On-call responsibilities required </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>3-5 years of veterinary experience, preferably in equine medicine </li><li>Surgical experience strongly preferred </li><li>LVT/CVT/RVT preferred </li><li>Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours) </li><li>Ability to lift at least 50 lbs </li><li>Comfortable handling a variety of horses including sport horses, racehorses, stallions, draft breeds, minis, donkeys, and youngstock </li><li>Working knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization processes, and veterinary medical terminology </li><li>Strong equine handling and restraint skills </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Prepare and organize the surgery suite for elective and emergency procedures </li><li>Serve as the primary circulating surgery technician </li><li>Assist with patient preparation, including clipping and surgical site preparation </li><li>Maintain strict sterile technique and support surgeons during procedures </li><li>Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and prepare surgical packs </li><li>Maintain a clean, organized surgery suite between procedures </li><li>Restock surgical supplies and communicate equipment or inventory needs </li><li>Assist with post-operative care, bandage changes, and radiographs </li><li>Provide support in other areas of the practice when needed, including hospital, imaging, pharmacy, or ambulatory services </li></ul> <p>Types of Procedures</p> <p>Our surgery team performs a variety of elective and emergency procedures, including:</p> <ul> <li>Arthroscopy, tenoscopy, and bursoscopy </li><li>Castrations </li><li>Fracture repair and screw placement </li><li>Neurectomy and fasciotomy </li><li>Sinus and mass removal surgeries </li><li>Laparoscopy and arthrodesis </li><li>Colic surgery </li><li>Septic joint treatment </li><li>Emergency fracture and laceration repair </li></ul> <p>Why Join Fairfield Equine?</p> <p>Fairfield Equine is a well-established equine sports medicine practice committed to providing exceptional care while fostering a supportive, team-oriented work environment.
