Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$81,900.00 - $163,425.00</p> <p>Overview Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Initiatives and Presidential Communications, the associate director for communications will support external and internal communications for the Office of the President. Through speeches, reports, presentations, op-eds, web content, and collateral material, the associate director will translate complex concepts into powerful language for a wide range of audiences. They will exercise sound editorial judgement and maintain discretion. The associate director will participate actively in editing or providing feedback on presidential communications drafted by others at the university and will supervise the senior writer responsible for drafting presidential correspondence and other materials. The person in this position will work closely with colleagues across the university to ensure mutual alignment with institutional messages, themes, and priorities. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Ability to write powerfully, effectively, creatively, and clearly across a range of media - often while working under tight deadlines. 2. Ability to capture the distinctive voice of the president in speeches, remarks, op-eds, presentations, and other written works. 3. Demonstrated ability to conceive and write publicly consumed material for senior leadership for internal and external audiences. 4. Skilled in authoring web content, news stories, talking points, and other materials with superb attention to detail and context. Skilled in translating academic content and adapting writing to a variety of audiences and media. Excellent editing, fact-checking, and proofreading skills. 5. Ability to develop & manage communications plans, identify communications vehicles relevant to key audiences, and transmit messages. Ability to understand community needs, incorporate community members' perspectives, formulate communications. Demonstrated experience managing websites, strategic content planning. Proficiency using analytics to inform decisions. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of Yale, its organization, alumni, students, and faculty members.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Under the direction of the Director of Communications, prepare polished final drafts of high level strategic communications for internal and external audiences, including researching, consulting with relevant colleagues, and writing original works. 2. Translate complex concepts into powerful language for a wide range of audiences, including speeches, reports, presentations, op-eds, web content, and collateral material. 3. Actively edit and provide feedback on presidential communications drafted by others at the university. 4. Collaborate closely with peers, including Office of Public Affairs and other university colleagues. 5. Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field and six years of experience in public relations, journalism, corporate communications or political work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience in conceiving and writing publicly consumed material and material for internal audiences for leadership. </li></ol> <p>Background Check Requirements</p> <p>All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which may include motor vehicle, DOT certification, drug testing and credit checks based on the position description and job requirements.
