<p>TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAM CHAIRPERSON</p> <p>TYPE: Contract Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement</p> <p>SALARY: Per Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education</p> <ul> <li>This position may require assisting in multiple locations as needed. </li></ul> <p>OBJECTIVE: The Special Education Team Chairperson will chair evaluation TEAMS for all students both in-house and those students in out-of-district placements. The Special Education Team Chairperson should work with the school community to build a learning climate that allows all students to meet their highest learning potential.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Serve as evaluation TEAM chairperson for initial referrals and re-evaluations as well as out-of-district placements </li><li>Assist the Director of Special Education to return out-of-district students </li><li>Assist the Director of Special Education in increasing inclusion programs </li><li>Maintain accurate figures on caseload assignments for teachers and support personnel to assist in maintaining adequate staffing needs </li><li>Assist regular education teachers in making accommodations and modifications in curriculum and instruction </li><li>Maintain compliance in all Special Education timelines and regulations </li><li>Maintain compliance and standards of excellence for professional performance and program development </li><li>Complete all reports in a timely manner </li><li>Attend after school meetings when requested </li><li>Work cooperatively with the regular education staff </li><li>Attend professional conferences and workshops </li><li>Meet with principals, as needed, to discuss special education issues and regulations </li><li>Establish by personal example a standard of excellence that will inspire others </li><li>Assume other duties/responsibilities as directed by the Special Education Director. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED</p> <ul> <li>Ability to be flexible to work with parents, teachers, students and administrators to effect desired outcomes. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>the Special Education Team Chairperson must be available for after school and evening meetings when necessary </li><li>The Special Education Team Chairperson must be able to work effectively with teachers, parents, students, principal and other administrators </li><li>The Special Education Team Chairperson must be able to regularly travel among school buildings. </li></ul> <p>SUCCESS FACTORS</p> <ul> <li>Willingness to cooperate and work with the Special Education Director and others as an integral member of the special education team </li><li>Ability to acknowledge problems and to resolve them in positive ways </li><li>Ability to set high personal standards </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ol> <li> <p>Certified as a Teacher of Students with Special Needs or School Adjustment Counselor or LSW or Guidance Counselor</p> </li><li> <p>Membership in professional association(s) preferred.</p> </li></ol>
