<p>Description</p> <p>Job ID</p> <p>FU9777-0320-1911</p> <p>Position Classification</p> <p>FT Faculty UDMPU (9 months)</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science starting August 16, 2026. Our excellent student outcomes led to recognition by the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2026 report, ranking UDM 2nd in Michigan and 36th nationally.</p> <p>Computer Science is housed in the Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates. The small classes, excellent facilities, and close collegial relationships make teaching at Detroit Mercy exciting and rewarding. The College's faculty forms a vibrant community of teaching scholars with a strong focus on professional and academic mentorship of students. Faculty in the department maintain a strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in externally funded research and joint scholarly publications across Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Faculty are expected to teach a variety of courses aligned with departmental and student needs. In addition, faculty are expected to develop a sustainable research program involving the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, actively collaborate with EE and CS colleagues on externally funded research initiatives, and publish in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.</p> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>An earned Ph.D. in Computer Science by the time of appointment. </li><li>Commitment to innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies that enhance student learning outcomes. </li><li>Experience teaching computer science courses at the post-secondary level or equivalent instructional experiences with recent evaluations. </li><li>Ability and willingness to teach a range of computer science and software engineering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. </li><li>Experience, knowledge, and research in Applied Artificial Intelligence with interest in AI-enhanced educational technologies and pedagogy. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Evidence indicating the promise of service to the department, college, university, community and profession. </li><li>An active research agenda with a record of recent scholarly publications and interest in collaborative grant development. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping.
