<p>Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach Women's Gymnastics. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. This position is responsible for management and administration of all phases of the women's gymnastics program, athletes and staff.</p> <p>The mission of NIU Athletics is to enhance the University, community and region through service and engagement while developing champions in the classroom, in competition and in life. With long standing traditions and core values centered on family, NIU Athletics is home to 17 NCAA Division I sport programs. Northern Illinois University, chartered in 1895, is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with over 15,000 currently enrolled students and houses seven (7) degree-granting colleges-Business, Education, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health and Human Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. Centrally located in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University is 30 miles west of Aurora, 65 miles west of Chicago, 36 miles west of Naperville, and 45 miles southeast of Rockford.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>This is a professional coaching position, and all the duties of the position must be conducted and adhere to the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the Mid-American conference (or subsequent member conference) and the university.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Coaching & Conduct - 35%</p> <ul> <li>Preparation and conduct of all team-related activities including skill instruction, sport strategy and competitive opportunities. </li><li>Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and university. </li><li>Responsible for the development, safety and conduct of the student-athletes within the women's gymnastics program </li></ul> <p>Academics - 25%</p> <ul> <li>Provide an overall positive educational environment for our Student-Athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college. </li><li>Supervise, in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff. </li></ul> <p>Administrative - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Perform team-related administrative duties such as budget, scheduling, travel arrangements, etc. </li></ul> <p>Personnel - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Selection, oversight, development, evaluation, and retention of staff (assistants). </li></ul> <p>Recruitment - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Supervise the recruitment strategy to attract top level, Division I prospects including identification, assessment, campus visits and implementation of campus resources. </li></ul> <p>Public Relations - 5%</p> <ul> <li>Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, public speaking, community events, and through camps and/or clinics. </li></ul> <p>Other Related Duties - 5%</p> <ul> <li>Assist with departmental needs as requested. </li><li>When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Specialty Factors (Civil Service)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Minimum of five (5) years of coaching experience. </li><li>Demonstrated successful coaching experience in women's gymnastics. </li><li>Minimum one (1) year (12 months) of experience/success in recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes, particularly at the regional (Midwest) level. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements (SPS)</p> <ul> <li>Have a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional rules and conduct the program within the regulations. As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position's responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate with and relate well to student-athletes, high school/club coaches and department support staff. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications (SPS)</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree. </li><li>Competitive experience in women's gymnastics on the university or college level. </li><li>Head Coach or Associate Head Coach or Recruiting Coordinator experience. </li><li>Coaching experience at the Division I college level. </li></ul> <p>Physical demands/requirements</p> <ul> <li>Sitting, standing, running, walking, occasionally lifting up to 50lbs. </li></ul>
