If you are viewing this posting through any other website (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, etc.), please visit our website to submit your application.</p> <p>LIBRARY AIDE</p> <p>Pay Range: $14.57 - $20.50</p> <p>NATURE OF WORK</p> <p>This is library support work assisting in the operation of Keene Memorial Library. The planned schedule will be at least one night a week and every other weekend, plus several shifts during the week - this position is required to work 30 hours a week. Weekday hours to be determined. Scheduling may change based on staff's availability. Work involves performance of various library and public service duties which may include circulation, providing assistance to library customers in the location of books and materials, and the operation of library equipment including basic computer and software instruction. Subject to supervision and review by a professional librarian.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:</p> <p>The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:</p> <ul> <li>Greets customers, explains library policies and procedures, checks materials in and out; assists readers in using the online catalog and locating materials. Works with electronic resources available through the library website. </li><li>Assists library customers completing membership applications, processes applications and issues new library cards. </li><li>Assists the public in use of computers, printers, photocopier, and other equipment. </li><li>Shelves and maintains materials in order, notifies customers of reserve materials & interlibrary loans; performs data entry. </li><li>Collects fees per library policies. </li><li>Assists with programming both in creating and helping run programs of interest to customers of various ages. </li><li>Performs related work as required. </li></ul> <p>DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic library practices and procedures including alpha and numerical sequencing; materials and services available in public libraries. </li><li>Knowledge of modern office methods, procedures and equipment; basic mathematical principles. </li><li>Ability to learn standard library practices and procedures. </li><li>Ability to remain responsive to the needs of library customers. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to work various shifts which include evenings and weekends. </li><li>Ability to assist library customers in response to circulation, reference, and related library questions; perform a variety of library technical and clerical work with speed and accuracy. </li><li>Ability to adapt easily to changing circumstances and priorities; perform a variety of tasks simultaneously. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and to deal with the general public in a tactful and courteous manner. </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Skill in the operation of data entry devices as required of the position. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Graduation from high school or equivalent GED, including or supplemented by courses in typing, data entry, and the use of standard office machines including computers, printers, and cash register. Some experience in clerical duties or general ability to organize and perform library and clerical tasks in a timely, accurate manner; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, skills.</p> <p>PREFERRED</p> <p>Public library experience</p> <p>Ability to communicate in Spanish, both verbally and in writing.</p> <p>WORK CONDITIONS</p> <p>Work takes place in a normal library environment. Duties require considerable standing, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, seeing small numbers and hearing questions from co- workers or customers.</p>
