Experience Cortland dives deep into the region's offerings </li></ul> <p>Major Responsibilities</p> <p>Advising and Counseling</p> <ul> <li>Provide guidance and counseling to students and parents on all matters pertaining to the financing of their SUNY Cortland education </li><li>Respond to student/family inquiries that are initiated during walk-in visits to the office, via email or phone or other communication </li><li>Manage and maintain a caseload of prospective and current students which includes: </li><li>Reviewing and adjusting records for grade levels </li><li>Reviewing and processing independence override requests and special circumstance appeals </li><li>Running daily reports </li><li>Reviewing applicant enrollment and progression towards degree </li></ul> <p>Application Processing</p> <ul> <li>Review and process financial aid applications in a timely and accurate manner </li><li>Determine the financial aid eligibility of prospective and current students, prepare financial aid packages, and ensure compliance with federal state and institutional guidelines </li></ul> <p>Monitoring and Documentation</p> <ul> <li>Perform routine financial aid functions necessary to deliver financial aid to students which includes reviewing all flagged FAFSA's for citizenship, aggregated loan warnings/limits, unusual enrollment, independency and defaulted student loans </li><li>Review student records to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial aid regulations including registration compliance and satisfactory academic progress notifications </li><li>Oversee the administration of an aid program which includes: </li><li>Loading and extracting electronic files </li><li>Originating, awarding, and authorizing payments </li><li>Reconciling, vouchering, and redepositing program funds </li></ul> <p>Outreach and Education</p> <ul> <li>Conduct workshops, webinars, and presentations on financial aid topics </li><li>Collaborate with other departments to support enrollment and retention </li></ul> <p>Functional and Supervisory Relationships</p> <ul> <li>Reports to the director of financial aid </li><li>Works closely with the other members of the financial aid team </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree </li><li>Demonstrated experience working in an office environment </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree </li><li>Experience working in a financial aid office </li><li>Experience working with a student information system such as Banner, etc. </li><li>Experience utilizing document imaging software such as OnBase, etc. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge, understanding and the ability to interpret federal aid regulations in the administration of student federal aid </li><li>Understanding of needs analysis, student budgets, and federal/state/private aid management </li><li>Strong attention to detail </li><li>Ability to work in a high-volume deadline-driven office environment </li><li>Effective interpersonal skills </li><li>Strong written and oral communication skills </li><li>Strong investigative, problem solving and analytical skills </li><li>Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet critical deadlines </li><li>Ability to work independently and with a team </li><li>Strong critical thinking skills </li></ul> <p>About the University</p> <p>A top public university of approximately 6,600 students located in the geographic center of New York State, SUNY Cortland provides accessible, affordable education to students from across the U.S. body.
