Learn more about American University.</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>Kay Spiritual Life Center Administrative Support</p> <p>Time Type:</p> <p>Part time</p> <p>FLSA Status:</p> <p>Non-Exempt</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>Kay Spiritual Life Center is looking to hire a Graduate Student to support department goals and facilitate programming, with special focus on assisting with developing and implementing a communications strategy. In consultation with the Associate Director and the University Chaplain, the Communications Graduate Assistant will develop and implement a communications strategy for the department, including updating print and online media, social media, marketing, website, and newsletter. The KSLC Graduate Assistant reports to the Associate Director of Kay Spiritual Life Center and is responsible for guiding the KSLC student team, facilitating student programming, communicating with campus and community partners, and, in consultation with the Associate Director and the University Chaplain, will develop print and online media, social media, marketing, website, and newsletter. The Kay Spiritual Life Center is American University's place for people of all beliefs to explore meaning, discern purpose, and find community. We strive to make the world a gentler place. Kay Spiritual Life Center is home to dozens of belief communities, student groups, and community partners.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist in developing and implementing KSLC's online communications strategy, including social media, website, newsletter, and other digital communications.</p> </li><li> <p>Supporting direct marketing implementation and follow-up, including electronic and print media.</p> </li><li> <p>Create and send newsletters for the department using Mailchimp.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and disseminate promotional materials for events and initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and plan digital communications to internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, students, campus leaders, donors, and community stakeholders.</p> </li><li> <p>Propose, develop, and implement social media campaign ideas.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in the creating and maintaining of up-to-date student, staff, and alumni contact lists.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and attend weekly team meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in hiring new student workers.</p> </li><li> <p>Delegate tasks to undergraduate student worker team.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for supporting KSLC programs and initiatives, through planning, execution, and assessment of events, with a particular focus toward Holy Day celebrations and Soup with Substance.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage photography, a/v equipment support, maintaining registration list, and creating event webpages.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with other departments and student organizations to develop engaging programs that foster meaning, belonging, and purpose.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage the Engage platform for KSLC events and programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with student organizations and community partners.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend monthly Council of KSLC Community Partners meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate and attend monthly KSLC Student Leader Gatherings.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend weekly meetings with the Assistant Director of KSLC and monthly Community Partner meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Part-Time.</p> </li><li> <p>20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters with remote flexibility.</p> </li><li> <p>This position is partial presence required in the office and may require some evening and weekend work.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to work both fall and spring semesters.</p> </li></ul> <p>Salary Range:</p> <ul> <li>$19 per hour. </li></ul> <p>Required Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to work consistent weekly hours and meet deadlines.</p> </li><li> <p>Must currently be enrolled as a graduate student at American University.</p> </li><li> <p>Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent time management.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work self-sufficiently on assigned tasks.</p> </li><li> <p>Mature judgment and professional demeanor.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while paying close attention to detail.</p> </li><li> <p>Creative, results oriented, excel in customer service and have strong administrative skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Event management and marketing experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Comfortable working under tight deadlines.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to think creatively in order to produce new ideas and concepts to enhance a project's objectives.</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Prior experience in marketing and communications.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in web design and creating newsletters.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with Canva, Mailchimp, Engage, or Commonspot.</p> </li><li> <p>Photography, graphic design, and html, and programming skills are a plus.</p> </li><li> <p>Candidates are invited to link a portfolio/graphic design work samples in their application material.</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a resume and explain how and why you are qualified for this position. </li></ul> <p>Other Details</p> <ul> <li> <p>This position is available only to enrolled American University students.</p> </li><li> <p>Please note this job announcement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
