<p>JAG Specialist (25-26) JobID: 406</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Mark Twain Alternative School/Teacher</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>4/22/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Mark Twain School</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>08/05/2025</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>Until Filled</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Title: JAG Specialist</p> <p>Reports to: Building Administrator</p> <p>Employment Terms:</p> <ul> <li>Employment terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education's policies, procedures, and agreements. </li><li>School term: 184 contract days </li><li>Salary dependent on experience </li></ul> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>The JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates) Specialist identifies, recruits, and instructs students deemed to have a high degree of difficulty of being promoted into the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a successful transition from school to a career with advancement opportunities.</p> <p>Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in the areas of teaching assignment</p> <ul> <li>Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate </li><li>Bachelor's degree in social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques </li><li>Experience working with youth, accompanied by knowledge of child development issues. </li><li>Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students </li><li>Experience with data collection, reporting, and analysis </li></ul> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific JAG competencies through classroom instruction; teaches through a variety of methods, including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching; tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student; and implements an intervention strategy for each individual. </li><li>Ensures an appropriate pool of students by directly recruiting students and obtaining referrals from an Advisory Committee, school personnel, and parents; holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program. </li><li>Administers testing programs including pre-/post-tests and career interest surveys. Establishes and implements a career development plan for all enrolled students. </li><li>Ensures positive perceptions of the JAG program within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel, including teachers, administrators, students, and members of the Advisory Committee. </li><li>Advocates for the program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings, and speaks to various community groups. </li><li>Builds appreciation for teamwork, sense of belonging, and commitment to community service among JAG students by organizing and serving as advisor to a JAG Career Association. </li><li>Establishes and maintains a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment. </li><li>Creates a safe, welcoming, and engaging physical space that supports and celebrates learning and fosters a sense of pride. </li><li>Promote positive behaviors and enforce school policies in a consistent and fair manner. </li><li>Creates training opportunities through hands-on activities, film presentations, guest speakers, and workshops; assists with civic and social opportunities. </li><li>Plans, facilitates, and supervises students during field trips. </li><li>Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. </li><li>Provides students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits. </li><li>Maintains open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. And refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis. </li><li>Complies with all data collection and documentation requirements in a timely fashion. </li><li>Assists students in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs upon graduation. Work closely with students and employers for 12 months after the end of the school year to ensure a satisfactory employment outcome. </li><li>Develops a contact plan for non-graduates to ensure effective transition to employment or additional education. </li><li>Completes special projects and other projects or duties as assigned by the Regional Manager. </li><li>Ensures confidentiality of sensitive student information. </li><li>Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. </li><li>Actively participates in district professional development opportunities and faculty meetings. </li><li>Participates in staff, regional, and statewide JAG-related professional development and meetings. </li><li>Engages in after-school responsibilities, including parent-teacher conferences, student events, and professional development sessions. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather. </li><li>Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time. </li><li>Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors. </li><li>Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room level and to hear and understand speech on the telephone. </li><li>Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups. </li><li>Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. </li><li>Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes. </li><li>Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee. </li></ul> <p>Evaluation: This position's performance will be evaluated per the provisions of the Board's policy.</p> <p>Disclaimer: The information contained in this job description is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
