<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Associate Costume Designer is responsible for the successful realization of all costume requirements for the fall Musical Theater Mainstage production, the spring Opera (both co-produced with the Oberlin Conservatory), and the spring Mainstage Dance production.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>This position will teach one class per semester, with "Hair & Makeup for the Stage" expected to be one of them. When possible, this position will also provide production assistance in the realization of the costume requirements for the remaining theater, dance and opera productions.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Production Support:</p> <ul> <li>Execute all industry expected functions of a costume designer for the three assigned shows per year. </li><li>Provide supervision and assistance as the schedule and workload permits by assisting in the realization of the costume requirements for the remaining theater, dance and opera productions. </li><li>In cooperation with the rest of the department, assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment, inventory and facilities related to costumes. </li><li>In cooperation with the Dance, Opera and Musical Theater departments, participate in Season Selection. </li><li>Maintain professional fluency with industry functions, resources, research, practices and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Curricular Support:</p> <ul> <li>Teach the scheduled courses each semester. </li><li>Maintain and develop costume course curriculum, keeping current with professional best practices and techniques. </li><li>Advisor and mentor students interested in theatrical costume design on the appropriate professional pathways into a career in the field. </li><li>Collaborate with all departmental faculty and staff concerning the role of the costume courses within the theater major and minor requirements. </li></ul> <p>Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>MFA degree in Theater or applicable field. </li><li>Experience working in an academic theater department environment. </li><li>Experience with industry-standard techniques and technologies for costume design and construction. </li><li>Experience teaching costume, or costume adjacent, classes. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, respond to pressures, deadlines and changes in priorities or schedules. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and abilities, with an ability to balance assertiveness and diplomacy. </li><li>Expertise with standard office and shop machines and software, including Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and comparable applications </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <p>Experience in production management; including budgeting, inventory control, scheduling and leading teams.</p> <p>Quick Link for Posting https://jobs.oberlin.edu/postings/16282 Compensation</p> <p>Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package</p> <p>Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>A complete application will be comprised of 1) a Cover Letter describing your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and service, detailing any connections to supporting an inclusive learning environment; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) an unofficial graduate transcript; 4) a statement (or statements) on your teaching philosophy and expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion; 5) Letters of Reference from three recommenders.*</p> <p>All application materials must be submitted electronically through Oberlin College and Conservatory's online application process</p> <p>at: https://jobs.oberlin.edu/</p> <ul> <li>By providing three letters of reference, you agree that we may contact your letter writers. </li></ul> <p>Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
