<p>Company Overview:</p> <p>Protara Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company committed to advancing transformative therapies for people with cancer and rare diseases. Protara's portfolio includes its lead candidate, TARA-002, an investigational cell-based therapy in development for the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and lymphatic malformations (LMs). The Company is evaluating TARA-002 in an ongoing Phase 2 trial in NMIBC patients with carcinoma in situ (CIS) who are unresponsive or naïve to treatment with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), as well as a Phase 2 trial in pediatric patients with LMs. Additionally, Protara is developing IV Choline Chloride, an investigational phospholipid substrate replacement for patients on parenteral support who are otherwise unable to meet their choline needs via oral or enteral routes.</p> <p>Job Overview:</p> <p>The Business Development Associate will report to Director, Corporate Development, Strategy & Competitive Intelligence.</p> <p>The Business Development Associate will work on creation of new business development opportunities for Protara. The geographical scope of the position is primarily the United States, although outside of the US opportunities will be explored as they arise. This person will be responsible for seeking in-licensing opportunities to complement Protara's pipeline, seeking out-licensing partners for the company's pipeline products, implementing a marketing plan, and management of Business Development Projects. This person will direct the development, implementation, and achievement of both short-and-long term objectives, budgets, and operating plans as they relate to external collaboration efforts.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):</p> <ul> <li>Maintain a strong network of industry contacts within the biotech/pharma industry </li><li>Perform high-level business development activities, including meeting 1:1 with potential partners, making partnering presentations, negotiating contract terms, and managing the quotation and proposal process for new projects. </li><li>Create and implement an effective, proactive growth strategy, including short and long-term operating objectives, designed to generate new business opportunities for product in/out-licensing </li><li>Support the Director, Corporate Development, Strategy & Competitive Intelligence in long-term strategic planning process to ensure that the company is well positioned for key scenarios in the 3-to-5-year horizon, ensuring that: programs are well supported to grow, the organization has the appropriate human and capital to support the planned growth and that we are laying an appropriate foundation for this growth today </li><li>Monitor, analyze and report on the competitive landscape of therapeutic areas Protara is involved in and consider impact on strategic positioning </li><li>Provide effective project and alliance management for existing and new partners. </li><li>Represent Protara at client meetings, industry conferences and networking events in support of our business development efforts </li><li>Assist in the competitive intelligence or CI function to ensure that the company is well positioned vs. the competition in key therapeutic areas, particularly NMIBC </li><li>Keep the team informed on all new developments in the dynamic landscape, creating a calendar on when we can expect important competitive data announcements as well as planning ahead of and during medical conferences, including what data is anticipated, analysis once presented and key follow up messages and positioning for investors, as needed </li><li>Create tracker that the team can review on an ongoing basis for key information on all competitors, manage the CI agency that has been brough on board to support these activities </li><li>Help craft communications (slides, key messages, etc.) to investors to position our programs, particularly TARA-002 in NMIBC, to demonstrate how we will be successful in a competitive marketplace </li><li>Analyze competitor activities to inform Protara's clinical strategy: ensure that we are aware of key changes in the landscape, understand them in depth and have the ability to consider changes needed to our own clinical development (e.g. new indications, changes to study protocols, changes to comparators, new combination approaches, new administration or dosing regimens, etc.) </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience:</p> <ul> <li>3 to 5 years of relevant experience. 2 to 4 years at a Biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, or life sciences consulting/investment banking firm required </li><li>Bachelor's degree in life sciences required; Advanced degree preferred </li><li>Demonstrated ability to build rapport with therapeutic and functional area leaders. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: None</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must be Proficient in MS Office Suite. </li><li>Strong quantitative skills </li><li>Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to be effective independently </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential </li><li>Strong analytical skills required for financial evaluations for deals </li><li>Strong organization and planning skills </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management, employees, and external stakeholders. </li><li>Strong work ethic; self-motivation; dedication; results orientation; and entrepreneurial. Ability to excel in a small-company environment. </li><li>A demonstrated ability to engage with new customers, with strong presentation and interpersonal skills - a persuasive, reason-based personality. </li><li>Ability to quickly set priorities and develop practical plans. Attention to detail and ability to work simultaneously on multiple priorities. </li></ul> <p>Other Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Possess an encouraging, can-do attitude </li><li>Ability to "think on your feet" both during negotiations with third parties and during internal discussions of risks and strategy </li><li>Salary Requirements are between $120,000 - $125,000 based on experience and qualifications. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>This position requires a moderate amount of travel; average travel for this position is 15-20% with some variation based upon the demands of the business imperatives.
