We have grown to what now encompasses 56 acres of naturalistic wildlife habitats in a lush, tropical garden setting with wide-ranging activities. The Zoo, accredited by Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), offers popular educational programming, fun recreational amenities, up-close animal encounters and engaging seasonal events for which it has won awards as one of the country's most family-friendly zoos.</p> <p>Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and care for animals; create exceptional personalized experiences that connect people with wildlife and each other in fun, immersive ways.</p> <p>Our vision is that everyone we touch is motivated to join us in taking action to protect and preserve wildlife.</p> <p>Join us and become a part of creating unforgettable natural connections!</p> <p>Your day to day.</p> <p>Essential Functions (including but not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Checks FMX daily, and assigns/completes work orders as needed. </li><li>Provides technical support and safety expertise on maintenance requests, construction projects, and events. </li><li>Attends Events planning and Safety meetings whenever possible. </li><li>Works closely with Events team members to prepare for scheduled events, weddings, park buyouts, etc. </li><li>Schedules maintenance support for Events and inspects location to insure it is ready for functions. </li><li>Troubleshoots commercial Panels, Hot Wire, Animal Heaters, central systems and computer-controlled HVAC systems. </li><li>Ability to diagnose causes of equipment and ride breakdowns, test parts with appropriate instruments, disassemble and assemble parts, and make necessary repairs. </li><li>Installs, connects, and adjusts thermostats, humidistats, and timers, using hand tools. </li><li>Train staff as needed to safely use new tools, equipment and to make repairs in or around Animal habitats. </li><li>Inspects tools, ladders, and equipment, ensuring they can be safely used by team members. </li><li>Erects scaffolding, and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level. Will complete inspections to insure they can be properly used. </li><li>Complies with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. </li><li>Prepares and maintains training records. </li><li>Executes maintenance and construction projects as assigned. </li><li>Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements. Inputs Work orders as needed. </li><li>Responsible for proper and safe use and maintenance of all equipment and tools. Maintains safe equipment use and ensures proper PPE use. In consideration for employee, guest, animal areas, ensures that areas are properly secured before commencement of a project. </li><li>Minimizes project intrusion into employee, guest, and animal areas. Ensures that unavoidable intrusion will not result in unsafe conditions and injury. </li><li>Ensures that before a project is considered complete that it has been fully inspected; all equipment, tools, and materials have been secured and put away; all blockades, ropes, and tape have been removed; and the area is completely guest ready. Responsible for quality control. </li><li>Supports other facility positions as needed for the successful operation/repair of Zoo related issues. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED. </li><li>Electric and HVAC certifications preferred. Obtains and maintains required certifications. </li><li>Basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities preferred. </li><li>Working knowledge of machines and tools related to facility maintenance required. </li><li>Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and troubleshooting of HVAC systems. </li><li>Understanding of computer-controlled HVAC systems. </li><li>Motivated self-starter and strong organizational skills. </li><li>Effective communication skills. </li><li>Must be able to utilize Work Management Software, issuing work orders and preventative maintenance. </li><li>Deals courteously and tactfully with employees, peers, superiors, and the public. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. </li><li>Use of computer and basic programs. </li><li>Knowledge to perform a wide variety of building maintenance. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Must be able to take initiative and assist management with supervision. </li></ul> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare. </li><li>Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold). </li><li>Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Must have ability to navigate paved as well as rough construction sites. </li><li>Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends. </li><li>Must be able to plan for, work, and staff special events and exhibits as well as be available for unexpected shifts. </li><li>Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking. </li></ul> <p>Our Perks at ZooTampa</p> <ul> <li>Medical, Dental, Vision, Pet, Life Insurance, 403(b) Pension Plan </li><li>Vacation and sick time </li><li>Employee Assistance Program </li><li>Free gym membership </li><li>Free admission to the Zoo, MOSI, and the Florida Aquarium </li><li>Free or discounted admission to many attractions in Florida </li><li>And so much more! </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer & Drug-Free Workplace</p>
