<p>This position is 100% federally funded.</p> <ul> <li>The Recruitment Range For This Position Is $61,545 - $76,602* </li></ul> <p>The Environmental Program Consultant serves as the Principal Investigator and supervisor for the Health Assessment Consultation and Education Program (HACE). The HACE program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) via ATSDR'S Partnership to Promote Local Efforts to Reduce Environmental Exposure (APPLETREE) Cooperative Agreement. </p> <p>The Environmental Program Consultant position leads a team that conducts public health and toxicological risk assessments and health education activities for contaminated/hazardous waste sites across North Carolina. The team uses CDC guidelines and communicates findings to a range of federal, state and local agencies as well as public audiences. This position supervises two permanent staff (an Environmental Program Consultant and a Public Health Educator) as well as occasional temporary employees or interns. </p> <p>The Environmental Program Consultant position is based within the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch and reports to the OEEB Branch Head but works independently with minimal supervision. OEEB interacts with many partners including community organizations, academic partners, local, state, and federal governmental agencies such as local health departments, NC Department of Environmental Quality, NC Department of Labor, CDC, and the US Environmental Protection Agency. </p> <p>About the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB):</p> <p>The Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch deals with environmental and occupational conditions and hazards that may pose a risk to human health. OEE identifies and quantifies exposures to environmental and occupational contaminants; conducts risk assessments and risk communication; provides medical evaluation and surveillance for adverse health effects; and provides health-based guidance on levels of exposure to such contaminants.</p> <p>About the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS):</p> <p>The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services manages the delivery of health and human-related services for all North Carolinians, especially our most vulnerable people - children, elderly, disabled and low-income families. Applicants that possess the following skills are preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of public health, environmental science, or toxicology principles. </li><li>Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders potentially including the public, government agencies, academic partners, and community organizations. </li><li>Demonstrated experience developing and presenting educational materials to professional and community groups. </li><li>Demonstrated experience supervising the work of others. </li><li>Working knowledge of risk assessment principles or practices. </li><li>Demonstrated experience leading a public health program. </li><li>Demonstrated experience managing and analyzing data. </li><li>Working knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies that govern or influence environmental health. </li><li>Demonstrated experience providing leadership during an emergency or disaster. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, or pull or otherwise move objects including the subject's own body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met. </li><li>Work Requires visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspections involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. </li></ul> <p>Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience."
