The educator supports multilingual learners' access to complex scientific concepts while developing academic language proficiency in both languages. The educator implements district-approved bilingual or multilingual instructional models and supports students' academic achievement, bilingualism, and biliteracy.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Department Chair - Language Acquisition & World Languages</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>In addition to all duties and responsibilities outlined in the District'sEducator job description, the Bilingual (Spanish) Science Educator will:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver high school science instruction in Spanish and English across biology, chemistry, and physics aligned to Illinois learning standards and district curriculum </li><li>Implement bilingual instructional strategies that support scientific literacy, inquiry, and academic language development </li><li>Adhere to district language allocation and program expectations for bilingual or multilingual education </li><li>Facilitate laboratory-based instruction while ensuring student safety and compliance with district and state science safety protocols </li><li>Support students' development of scientific reasoning, inquiry skills, and discipline-specific academic vocabulary in both languages </li><li>Monitor and document student progress in science content and language development </li><li>Collaborate with bilingual, ML, and general education colleagues to support student learning and program coherence </li><li>Communicate effectively with families in English and/or Spanish regarding student progress and course expectations </li><li>Participate in professional learning related to bilingual education, science instruction, and multilingual learner support </li><li>Support program compliance requirements related to bilingual and multilingual education </li><li>Promote an inclusive learning environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by administration, consistent with the scope of the role </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to actively engage with students in a classroom environment for extended periods </li><li>Ability to support instructional activities in a variety of classroom and school-based settings </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: (Completed by Office of Human Resources)</p> <p>Days/year</p> <p>182 days</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>D220 Benefits</p> <p>Salary</p> <p>BEA Salary Schedule</p> <p>02/2026</p>
