<p>Posting Details</p> <p>Position Information</p> <p>Requisition Number AS879P Job Title Associate Vice President and Dean of the School of Public Service, Social Sciences, and Education Pay Rate $110,000 - $120,000 annually Position Type Administrative Position Summary</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of the School of Public Service, Social Sciences, and Education (PSSSE) provides visionary leadership and effective coordination of the academic programs, personnel, services, and initiatives of assigned instructional areas, which encompass the academic departments of Public Safety, Legal Studies, Police Science, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Fire Service Administration, National Security and Intelligence, Education, Early Childhood Development, Anthropology, History, Geography, Human Services, Addictions Counseling, Psychology, Social Sciences, Sociology, and Political Science. The AVP/Dean is responsible for ensuring high quality instructional offerings and works closely with employers and industry representatives to ensure close alignment of program outcomes, career preparation, and work-based learning. The Associate Vice President/Dean of the School of PSSSE provides leadership and subject matter expertise for an entrepreneurial professional services unit and the management of a variety of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements with multiple branches within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Maryland State Departments of Education, Police, and Emergency Management, and a variety of local agreements. Reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President of Teaching, Learning, and Student Success, the AVP/Dean serves as a member of the TLSS Leadership Team, the Learning Leadership Council, and the Cabinet. This position must use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The following are the functions essential to performing this job:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Demonstrate a strong commitment to FCC as a student-centered comprehensive community college through diligent service in support of the College mission, vision, goals, objectives, and outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a climate of open communication, collegiality, and teamwork within the assigned instructional areas and other areas of responsibility.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise and provide leadership to all faculty and staff in the assigned instructional areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Use research and data to inform the continuous improvement of existing academic systems and the development of new initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership and support of the entrepreneurial Professional Services team development, program delivery, expansion, and assessment of ongoing partnerships with a variety of federal, state, and local agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership in pursuing and administering grant opportunities and developing an array of credit, non-credit, and professional services programming.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide visionary leadership assistance and support of the process of creating new courseware relevant to industry standards, setting course objectives, credit value, Continuing Education Units, number of hours, locations, and student costs in conjunction with competency-based measures of student success, and align the process with the appropriate national skills and standards within each public safety industry for both credit and non-credit courses and programs and FCC compliance with all quality assurance</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the recruitment, review, and screening processes for new full-time and adjunct faculty within the PSSSE area, encouraging diversity and ensuring compliance with pertinent College policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate across the college to encourage, promote and facilitate active involvement in faculty/staff professional development and to sustain the on-going support provided to adjunct faculty.</p> </li><li> <p>Support transfer articulation initiatives and agreements with four-year colleges and universities to better serve FCC students interested in baccalaureate study.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate and oversee the on-going academic and program assessments for the area, to develop and implement improvement strategies to strengthen programs and improve student outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with Student Experience personnel in developing and implementing an effective program of college orientation and support for students that will have a positive impact on student engagement, retention and academic success.</p> </li><li> <p>Cultivate and support external program advisory committees, where appropriate, to help strengthen program areas, ensuring active participation, diversity, and support by external professionals and stakeholders.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure compliance with regional (Middle States Association) and program accreditation standards, as well as relevant MHEC regulations, to ensure high academic standards and positive student outcomes, recommending appropriate actions as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the area's budget planning and development process and manage effectively the approved operating budget for the assigned instructional areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the development of academic schedules.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the Director for Dual Enrollment and High School Partnerships to provide appropriate dual enrollment courses that support career and college readiness.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve on relevant committees and teams both within the Teaching, Learning, and Student Success Team, and Collegewide.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and maintain guided pathways infrastructure.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage and resolve student complaints.</p> </li><li> <p>Create and maintain strong industry contacts and relationships.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>Master's degree in a discipline represented within the assigned instructional areas</p> </li><li> <p>Five (5) years in higher education or professional learning or training agency as an instructor or administrator</p> </li><li> <p>Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory experience in an educational setting as a dean or department chair or equivalent</p> </li></ol> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>Earned doctorate or juris doctorate</p> </li><li> <p>Professional state, national, or international industry-recognized certifications in public safety, law, education, or within the assigned disciplines</p> </li><li> <p>Two (2) years administrative experience in a college setting</p> </li><li> <p>Two (2) years of experience as a college-level faculty member in a discipline represented within the assigned instructional areas</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in grant attainment and management, college governance, organizational structure, financing and budgetary processes</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in addressing issues relating to transfer articulation, career preparation, developmental education, prior learning assessment, and education/industry partnerships, to include innovative instructional strategies and online learning</p> </li><li> <p>Experience administering programs with external accreditation and successfully leading programs through the accreditation process</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working harmoniously and effectively with community college faculty, staff, administrators, and students; as well as college and university educators, secondary level educators, government and community
