<p>The Externship & Career Advisor is an integral part of the Office of Career Services and serves as a contact for students in their externship, internship, and career search efforts. This role will work directly with students, counseling them on opportunities, searches, document review, and will assist in the development of high quality, innovative and effective programming, under the supervision of the Director of Externships & Career Services and in close collaboration with the Assistant Dean. The Externship & Career Advisor will be responsible for supporting the externship and pro bono programs under the supervision of the Director. This position will also support the Associate Director in the collection, retention, and reporting of a variety of data points, both for internal use and for external reporting as required for accreditation and will assist in the office's overall recruitment efforts, including the On Campus/On-Camera Interview (OCI) process.</p> <p>This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree required; JD or advanced degree preferred. </li><li>Student-focused experience in higher education administration required. </li><li>A successful candidate will have significant law school professional experience, preferably in career services related work and a background in information management. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Proficient experience with database management and reporting. </li><li>Experience with the 12twenty career management system preferred. </li><li>Excellent project management skills. </li><li>Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. </li><li>Able to carry out responsibilities with minimum supervision. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Strong service commitment. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide one-on-one advising with students to identify appropriate internship, externship, and career placements. </li><li>Work with students individually and in groups to counsel on professional development, networking, and job search techniques, the wide range of possible legal careers, cover letter and resume review, etc. </li><li>Engage with students to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with other staff and faculty to enhance career development and training opportunities. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student externs and student hour logs. </li><li>Work with Director to ensure that externships meet ABA requirements, and that necessary documents are in place including student agreements and field site placement agreements related to the Externship Program and Orange Flex. </li><li>Under the supervision of the Director, ensure the adequacy and quality of all experiential sites through mid-semester and end-of-semester evaluation processes with students and site supervisors, and in compliance with ABA Guidelines. </li><li>Build and expand externship opportunities for students and placement outreach. </li><li>Advise JD Interactive students on curricular externship requirements. </li><li>Update and maintain Externship, Pro Bono, Judicial Clerkship and other experiential learning materials, student resources and online information. </li><li>Coordinate and support college-wide career-related seminars, workshops, information sessions and career fairs, both in-person and virtually, and the Fall and Spring OCI programs. </li><li>Serve as a point of contact for the OCI programs, communicating with employers and students; assist with the coordination of the scheduling of in-person and virtual interviews, and the collection and distribution of resumes and other materials. </li><li>Perform the administrative functions associated with 12twenty (the career management platform), including the posting and approval of externships, internships, jobs, announcements, events, student resources, and OCI programs. </li><li>Assist with the collection and reporting on all required career reporting datapoints for ABA, NALP, and other accreditation requirements, US News & World Report, and for internal College of Law purposes (including Staff Leadership meetings, Faculty meetings, Board of Trustee meetings). </li><li>Support the various financial award processes managed by the Director, in coordination with the Office of Advancement and the Office of Financial Aid, including the Feinman Externship awards, the externship fund awards, the Syracuse Public Interest Network (SPIN) awards, the Richard Alexander Memorial Scholarship, the Feinman post graduate award and other public interest focused awards. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.</p>
