Senior Manager, Data Exchange

About Klaviyo & Data Infrastructure

Klaviyo is a leading customer data and marketing platform that helps businesses own their growth by using data to create highly personalized customer experiences. Our Data Infrastructure organization is the foundation of that strategy, building the systems that ingest, move, store, and serve multi-petabyte datasets in real time.

Within Data Infrastructure, the Data Exchange group is responsible for how data flows into, out of, and within Klaviyo-powering integrations, bulk imports/exports, and internal data pipelines that serve analytics, AI/ML, and core product features.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager (EM2) to lead the Data Exchange group. You'll own the strategy, roadmap, and execution for multiple teams focused on:

Ingesting data from external systems (commerce, POS, warehouses, apps).

Synchronizing data between Klaviyo and third-party platforms.

Orchestrating internal data pipelines across operational stores and the data lake.

Contributing to data movement strategy as we refine Klaviyo's Data Platform.

You will lead a group of approximately 20+ engineers, including engineering managers and senior ICs. This pivotal role involves collaborating closely with Product and Design teams to shape the future of Klaviyo's data platform. You will be expected to deeply understand the code, system behavior, constraints, and opportunities within the platform, working with technical peers to make critical decisions regarding architecture, strategy, and team structure to set the long-term direction for the area.

What you'll do

Lead multiple teams and managers to deliver a cohesive data movement platform, from integrations and ingestion to internal exchange and orchestration.

Define and own the vision and roadmap for Data Exchange and translate it into clear priorities, milestones, and success metrics.

Scale ingestion and synchronization systems to support rapidly growing data volumes and increasingly complex enterprise and vertical use cases.

Improve reliability and operability by driving best practices in SLOs, on-call, incident response, observability, and runbooks for all Data Exchange services.

Drive cost-efficient architectures in partnership with Data Platform and SRE, improving the unit economics of data movement (storage, compute, network).

Partner deeply across R&D (Data Platform, Core Data, Ecosystems/Integrations, Application teams) to align Data Exchange work with company-level OKRs.

Grow and mentor leaders-coaching engineering managers and senior ICs, setting a high bar for technical quality, execution, and collaboration.

Who you are

Seasoned leader of leaders: You've led multiple engineering teams or an EM+IC group of ~20+ engineers, with at least 2+ years managing managers.

Strong data and distributed systems background: You've built and operated large-scale data pipelines, ingestion/synchronization systems, or integration platforms.

Platform mindset: You think in terms of APIs, contracts, and reusable building blocks that make it easy for other teams to build on your platform.

Execution-focused: You're comfortable taking ambiguous goals, breaking them down into a plan, and delivering high-impact outcomes across teams and quarters.

People-first manager: You have a track record of growing engineering managers and senior ICs, building inclusive, healthy, high-performing teams.

Clear communicator and partner: You explain complex technical trade-offs clearly, and you build strong relationships with Product, Design, Security, SRE, and GTM partners.

Our tech environment (representative, not exhaustive)

You don't need experience with every technology, but you should be comfortable in environments that look like:

Public cloud (AWS or similar), Kubernetes, Terraform

Streaming, processing, and messaging (Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis, Spark, Flink, Airflow)

Data storage & query (MySQL/Postgres, Iceberg, ClickHouse, data lakes/warehouses)

We use Covey as part of our hiring and / or promotional process.
