The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects, within scope, and within budget. This role requires an understanding of municipal infrastructure, construction practices, and municipal processes. This position works under the supervision of the Managing Engineer Traffic Engineering and the Curbside Administrator.</p> <p>This position is from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.</p> <p>Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Identify traffic calming, safety, traffic signal projects and studies and rank them based on available city-wide traffic and accident data. </li><li>Manage and execute capital and maintenance projects, including but not limited to, transportation, traffic signal, traffic safety, traffic calming, road safety audits/studies and parking projects. </li><li>Review engineering designs, plans, studies and specifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory and procurement Coordinate with other departments and regulatory agencies as necessary. Obtain permits as required for projects. Coordinate and review other ongoing or planned projects to avoid conflicts. </li><li>Manage budgets, track expenses and ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with regulations and requirements. </li><li>Monitor the quality of engineering and construction work, ensuring that it complies with the scope, plans and technical specifications. Ensure high-quality construction methods are followed. </li><li>Perform regular site visits and inspections to ensure quality project delivery with as minimal disruption to the community as possible. Serve as the project representative to neighbors and stakeholders. </li><li>Assist with the procurement and management of contracts and services needed for projects, including the evaluation of bids and selection of vendors. </li><li>Prepare and present regular progress reports project summaries, and performance evaluations to management, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders. </li><li>Collaborate and communicate with other city departments, stakeholders, constituents, partners, utilities and other governmental </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, Urban Planning or Environmental Sciences or a bachelor's degree that includes course studies in these areas of study. </li><li>Minimum of 5 years' experience in municipal engineering or planning management, or utilities with a demonstrated background in managing public sector infrastructure projects. </li><li>Knowledge of municipal engineering standards, construction methods and regulations. </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation and leadership skills. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues, city officials, contractors and the public. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. </li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. </li><li>Driver's License </li><li>Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Certification as a registered professional engineer licensed to practice in the State of Rhode Island or engineer in training certification </li><li>Professional Traffic Operations Engineer Certification by the Institute of Transportation Engineers </li><li>Experience with municipal procurement and program management (PMP). </li><li>Proficient in ArcGIS </li><li>Proficient in AutoCAD or Autoturn </li><li>Experience in traffic engineering software </li></ul> <p>Posting expires when position is filled.</p> <p>APPLY NOW</p>
