Operate a variety of specialized equipment and hand tools. Ability to operate Loop saw. Demonstrate sound judgment on daily activities and performing routine maintenance on specialized construction equipment.</p> <p>This position generally reports to the Labor Crew Chief I, however is also responsible to follow direction of the Field Engineering & Operations Supervisor. The Street Crew Member is responsible to meet performance and production standards as assigned.</p> <p>Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Perform installation and routine maintenance of specialized signal detector loop equipment and related materials</p> </li><li> <p>Perform heavy manual labor</p> </li><li> <p>Operate light, medium, and heavy duty: machinery, equipment, and vehicles 4. Conduct inventory of parts, equipment, or materials</p> </li><li> <p>Perform safety tasks, setting up temporary work zones</p> </li><li> <p>Follow oral and written instructions</p> </li><li> <p>Operate a variety of specialized equipment and hand tools</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate good judgment on daily activities</p> </li><li> <p>Work in a team environment</p> </li><li> <p>Work in all types of weather</p> </li><li> <p>Perform related work as required</p> </li></ol> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must have a valid Driver's License at time of hire</p> </li><li> <p>Must have ability to obtain City Driving permit at time of hire</p> </li><li> <p>A High School Diploma or GED is preferred</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Preferred candidate has, or has ability to obtain, a CDL license or permit within 180 days of hire</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with work hazards, work zones, safety precautions, 811 Locates procedures, OSHA regulations, ground construction, specialized equipment and hand tools, traffic signal control, wires, communication, read and interpreting signal plans, and traffic systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Computer experience preferred; including but not limited to: typing, word documents, spreadsheets, and work order management system.</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to read and write</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate effectively</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to follow oral and written instructions</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work on a team</p> </li><li> <p>General knowledge of methods, practices, procedures, and equipment used in the maintenance and installation of traffic control devices</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to complete work as specified with specific or general instructions and supervision (based on task and level)</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to complete more complex tasks with direct supervision and instructions</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to use specialized equipment and hand tools used in traffic operations</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to perform heavy manual labor; able work outside in all types of weather</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated experience with the use of hand tools is preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved with working in and around moving traffic</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and standard practices for the installation, operation and maintenance of traffic signal and supporting systems</p> </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Sitting</p> </li><li> <p>Standing</p> </li><li> <p>Bending</p> </li><li> <p>Twisting</p> </li><li> <p>Reaching</p> </li><li> <p>Kneeling</p> </li><li> <p>Squatting</p> </li><li> <p>Crawling</p> </li><li> <p>Climbing (10 ft)</p> </li><li> <p>Walking (<3 miles)</p> <p></p> </li><li> <p>Lifting (3 ft., 20-100 lbs.)</p> </li><li> <p>Shoveling (10-30 lbs)</p> </li><li> <p>Pushing/Pulling</p> </li><li> <p>Carrying (3 ft, 20-100 lbs)</p> </li><li> <p>Driving approx. 50 miles daily</p> </li><li> <p>Work outside exposed to all weather conditions, chemicals, fumes, solvents, dust, slippery/uneven surfaces, machinery, moving object/vehicles, and excessive noise.</p> </li><li> <p>May climb ladders, work on slippery and uneven surfaces, work in confined spaces, and use vibrating machinery or tools.</p> </li><li> <p>Work in traffic; walk in and around moving vehicles and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Work involves sitting periodically, including riding in vehicle, attending trainings and meetings, or during use of office equipment such as computer for administrative tasks.</p> </li></ul> <p>CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT</p> <p>The City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.</p> <p>Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate's written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.</p> <p>Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
