<p>Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.</p> <ul> <li>Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course </li></ul> <p>work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P</p> <p>Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.</p> <p>The candidate must have the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor and must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position such as bending, lifting/moving up to 50 lbs, stretching, and climbing. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. The candidate must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Drivers license; have a motor vehicle record that is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (*Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes").</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications: One year experience working in the Plumbing field.</p> <p>Brief Description of Duties: The Maintenance Assistant will provide plumbing service to the campus community. For all duties of the position, incumbent must maintain the work area in a clean and safe manner. All assigned tasks will be accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner. The Maintenance Assistant will follow all safety rules and regulations and operate assigned vehicles in a safe manner. They will obey all campus motor vehicle rules, regulations and parking policies. Reports accidents, safety problems or service needs promptly.</p> <ul> <li>Operates assigned vehicles in a safe manner. </li><li>Obeys all campus motor vehicle rules, regulations and parking policies. </li><li>Reports accidents, safety problems or service needs promptly. </li><li>Assists in Plumbing Repairs. </li><li>Will assist plumber in correcting sewage back-ups and repairs to the domestic water system. </li><li>Replaces worn washers or other parts in leaky valves or taps. Assist in opening clogged drains. </li><li>Ability to assist with reading, interpreting, and working from plans, drawings and specifications. </li><li>Following directors from senior personnel. </li><li>Assist in installing pipes, fittings and fixtures with layout and materials provided. </li><li>Ability to use the tools of the trade including standard hand tools, portable power tools and shop equipment required to complete work according to plans. </li><li>Other Duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 9 Hiring Rate $42,641.00. Seniority applies to vacant non-competitive class positions in salary grades higher than the applicants grade.
