<p>Description</p> <p>Job Opportunity: Staff Assistant</p> <p>Position Overview: Congresswoman Dexter is seeking a dedicated and highly organized Staff Assistant to join her Portland office team. The ideal candidate will greet visitors, manage incoming calls, assist with constituent inquiries, and perform various administrative tasks and support for the district office team. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Full-time benefited position with a starting salary range $45-52K. Additional benefits include a student loan repayment program. Office location: 911 Federal Building on NE 11th ave, Portland, OR.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Answer and screen telephone calls for the Congresswoman and other staff members. </li><li>Maintain the office voicemail and answering machine. </li><li>Greet and screen visitors, ensuring appointments are on time and properly coordinated. </li><li>Establish a system for tracking franked mail that leaves the district office. </li><li>Maintain and distribute district and House office literature. </li><li>Foster positive relationships with the Congresswoman, staff, and constituents. </li><li>Collaborate with others in a cooperative and courteous manner. </li><li>Recruit and oversee district interns. </li><li>Review, clip, and organize relevant news articles and publications. </li><li>Perform other administrative and legislative duties as required. </li><li>Coordinate the Youth Advisory Council for the Congresswoman. </li><li>Administrative support for district events including researching and scouting locations. </li><li>Administer in-district constituent services including the Congressional Art Competition and the App Competition. </li><li>Provide support for other projects as needed. </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Customer service experience preferred. </li><li>IT experience preferred. </li></ul> <p>Skills & Knowledge Required:</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in office equipment (photocopier, computers, phones). </li><li>Strong attention to detail, organizational and proofreading skills. </li><li>Professional and friendly telephone manner. </li><li>Ability to communicate tactfully and professionally with a variety of personalities. </li><li>Knowledge of office policies, procedures, and computer applications. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). </li></ul> <p>This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the legislative process while working in a dynamic, professional environment.
