<p>The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Community Care department, providing essential clerical and administrative support. This role works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care delivery model to support patient care and treatment throughout the Community Care and Mission Act referral processes at VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS), including all Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).</p> <p>VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://youtube.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo</p> <p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional</p> <p>The position requires the incumbent to physically report for work to the Des Moines, IA VAMC.</p> <p>Major duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patients' appointments and/or consults; </li><li>Entering no-show information, monitoring the electronic wait list; </li><li>Preparing for clinic visits; </li><li>Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; </li><li>Ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; </li><li>Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; </li><li>Processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; </li><li>Performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage; </li><li>Reporting backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines, uncooperative physicians, or difficulty in securing information from clinicians or the record; </li><li>Maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties; </li><li>Communicating with physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills; </li><li>Making decisions based on guidelines, precedents and regulations and performing duties in such a manner that only minimal supervision is required. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or 8:00 am to 4:30 pm</p> <p>Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)</p> <p>Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.</p> <p>Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Telework: Not Authorized</p> <p>Virtual: This is not a virtual position.</p> <p>Functional Statement #: 000000</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized</p>
