<p>Actively Hiring! | Research Associate | Johnston, IA | Apply Now!</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The Research Associate designs and executes laboratory and greenhouse experiments to support transgene expression engineering and plant research. This role focuses on vector construction, Agrobacterium transformation, phenotyping of transgenic plants, and transgene expression analysis, while ensuring high-quality data generation, accurate reporting, and continuous process improvement in a safe research environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Design and plan experiments with clear timelines, ensuring all work is conducted safely and efficiently. </li><li>Ensure all experiments are scheduled, prepared, and executed on time in accordance with safety and quality standards. </li><li>Perform vector construction and Agrobacterium transformation, including associated quality control procedures. </li><li>Conduct transient assays developed by the transgene expression engineering team to support research objectives. </li><li>Perform phenotyping of transgenic plants and carry out transgene expression analyses. </li><li>Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare clear, organized reports. </li><li>Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities and support the team in implementing solutions. </li><li>Troubleshoot experimental processes and protocols as needed to resolve technical issues. </li><li>Make detailed observations during experiments and accurately document findings in laboratory records. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues in controlled environments for plant sample collection and related activities. </li><li>Promote and maintain a safe working environment by following established safety procedures and best practices. </li><li>Perform routine laboratory support tasks such as plasmid isolation, Agrobacterium transformation, and other molecular biology techniques developed by senior research associates on the team. </li><li>Manage and prioritize multiple experiments and projects to meet research timelines and goals. </li><li>Maintain excellent organizational practices, including thorough record keeping and documentation of experiments, protocols, and results. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, crop sciences, biochemistry, or a related scientific field, with 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. </li><li>Prior experience working in both research laboratory and field environments. </li><li>Hands-on experience with data analysis and strong computer skills to manage and interpret experimental data. </li><li>Experience with quality control practices in handling biological samples and experimental workflows. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to identify problems, troubleshoot experimental issues, and contribute to process improvement. </li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a collaborative team. </li><li>Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain focused while performing repetitive tasks. </li><li>Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects or experiments concurrently. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills and accurate record-keeping abilities for experiments and data. </li><li>Self-motivated, goal-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to personal and technical growth. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Understanding of experimental design principles and statistical data analysis is desired. </li><li>Experience in biochemistry, microbiology, and handling biological samples. </li><li>Background in research and development environments, particularly in plant or agricultural sciences. </li><li>Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as plasmid isolation and Agrobacterium-based transformation. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills to document and present research findings clearly. </li><li>Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional scientific teams in controlled environments. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position operates in a research-focused laboratory and controlled plant growth environments, with occasional work in field settings as required by experiments. The role follows a Monday through Friday, first-shift schedule. The work involves routine use of standard molecular biology and microbiology equipment, computers for data analysis, and specialized tools for plant phenotyping and sample collection. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to established protocols, with a collaborative team culture that supports continuous learning, process improvement, and high-quality scientific research.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
