<p>English Learner Literacy Teacher/Coach JobID: 3623</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Middle School Teaching/ESL</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>6/4/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Middle - McGlynn</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>English Learner Literacy Teacher/Coach</p> <p>Position Purpose</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the School Principal and the Director of English Learners, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing a district approved phonics program to support students English Language Development (ELD) and address specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment while providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, activities, and expectations.</p> <p>Performance Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develops and administers explicit and systematic phonics-based instruction to support students' English Language Development consistent with school and district goals and objectives. </li><li>Connect phonics instruction to WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and Common Core State Standards. </li><li>Coaches middle and high school English Learner teachers with implementing phonics-based instruction. </li><li>Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning. </li><li>Supports building with administration of ACCESS testing. </li><li>Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and attendance as required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association. </li><li>Participate in faculty and department, and/or district committees and meetings required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association. </li><li>Maintain records and student data as needed by the EL/Title III Department. </li><li>Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. </li><li>Familiar with WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards, ACCESS testing and UFLI Foundations phonics program. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents and administrators. </li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building on the strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process </li><li>Ability to collect and interpret data for instructional purposes </li><li>Excellent written and oral communications skills in English </li><li>Ability to engage in self-evaluation process with regard to performance and professional growth as required in the CBA agreement between the Medford Teachers Association and the Medford Public Schools. </li><li>Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Profile</p> <ul> <li>Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in ESL and Elementary Education or ESL and Reading Specialist </li><li>Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. </li><li>Masters Degree preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>Successful teaching experience with newcomer EL students as well as other levels of English proficiency. </li></ul>
