Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources</p> <p>Subject:Elementary Launch Program: ESL Instructional Material Development</p> <p>Dates/Hours: The committee will meet in person on June 25, 26, and 27 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day.</p> <p>Purpose: We are seeking dedicated educators to join the Launch ESL Summer Committee focused on the collaborative development and refinement of instructional materials for Unit 1 lesson components. This committee will help establish instructional routines that address specific language forms embedded in each priority text, aligned with WIDA key language features and functions. The team will work to build instructional routines around mini lessons, develop sample lesson slides with scaffolds, and establish formative assessment tasks to measure multilingual students' attainment of the target language forms.</p> <p>The goals of the Launch ESL Summer Steering Committee will be to:</p> <ul> <li>Design ready-to-use Unit 1 PowerPoint slides and materials for specific language forms identified in each priority text, grades K-5. </li><li>Incorporate concept development of relevant WIDA key language features and functions, aligned with key language uses (Inform, Explain, Narrate, Argue), with scaffolds to support multilingual learners at various proficiency levels. </li><li>Create formative assessment tasks that measure the attainment of learned language forms and concepts of language features and functions. </li><li>Ensure that all ESL instructional materials align with MA and WIDA 2020 Standards. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications: 1.Licensed in English as a Second Language (ESL) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 2.Previous experience working as a Launch Steering Committee member and a proven record of successful instructional practices in Launch grades K-5 settings. 3.Previous experience developing or administering Launch unit assessments. 4.Knowledge of second language acquisition, linguistics, and sheltering content approaches. 5.Understanding of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for ELA and WIDA 2020 Standards.</p> <p>Responsibilities: 1.Participate in three in-person collaborative workdays during the summer (June 25-27). 2.Partner with colleagues to develop Launch ESL instructional materials that target specific language forms, features, and functions aligned with WIDA key uses in grades K-5. 3.Ensure alignment with the Massachusetts Frameworks and WIDA English Language Development Standards. 4.Engage in professional discussions focused on ESL best practices, instructional routines, and second language acquisition. 5.Design and edit Unit 1 PowerPoint presentations, adding routine slides for ESL components. 6.Review and provide constructive feedback on instructional materials created by fellow members of the Launch Steering Committee. 7.Communicate and collaborate with the K-8 Department Head of Bilingual, Gloria Cho.</p> <p>Compensation: According to the Contract - Up to 15 hours.</p> <p>Fund Code to be Charged: Professional Development</p>
