<p>The School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach ARI 201/202, Second Year Studio I and II, during the Fall semester 2025 and Spring semester 2026. There are three sections being filled.</p> <p>ARI 201 is a team-taught interdisciplinary course offering a variable theme as subject matter. This course builds on the program of study initiated in the first-year studios emphasizing increased conceptual and technical development.</p> <p>ARI 202 This course builds on the program of study initiated in the Second Year Studio I emphasizing increased conceptual and technical development.</p> <p>About The College of Visual and Performing Arts</p> <p>The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University is committed to the education of cultural leaders who will engage and inspire audiences through performance, visual art, design, scholarship, and commentary. To learn more about the college, our distinguished faculty, and our program, please visit our websites at www.syr.edu, www.vpa.syr.edu.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>MFA </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Earned MFA in both conceptual and technical skill based discipline. </li><li>Evidence of teaching effectiveness. </li><li>Evidence of promising creative practice research agenda and exhibition record in a studio practice. </li><li>Evidence of commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in research, service, and/or pedagogy. </li><li>Ability to teach all levels of BFA Studio Art, studio foundations, seminar courses, and areas of specialization. </li><li>Experience with, or commitment to, educating and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and demographics. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Teach one (1) course per semester (4.5 hours) in 2nd year foundational studio encouraging development of a studio practice. </li><li>Assist with the coordination and supervision of the Second Year Studio Art students. </li><li>Sustained scholarly/creative practice or research program in the field of studio art. </li></ul> <p>In addition:</p> <ul> <li>Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. </li><li>Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments. </li><li>Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours. </li><li>Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. </li><li>Meeting all designated class periods. </li><li>If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. </li><li>You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. </li><li>Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. </li><li>Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner. </li><li>Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. </li><li>Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume/curriculum vitae and cover letter.</p>
