<p>Position Overview</p> <p>General Function:</p> <p>Provides skilled mechanical work involving road resting, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of refuse trucks, medium and heavy-duty trucks over 26,000 lbs., aerial equipment, generators, and large equipment. Work requires the exercise of independent judgment concerning the method of repair.</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>Fleet Manager</p> <p>Shop Foreman</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Key Duties & Responsibilities</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance of a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel equipment over 26,000 lbs., both on and off road.</p> </li><li> <p>Remove, replace, repair, maintain, and diagnose components and/or complete assemblies that fall under the following categories:</p> </li><li> <p>Engine (EX: Fluids, Water pump, belts, filters etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Transmission & Transaxles (EX: Fluids, Valve body, connector etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Manual Drive Tran & Axles (EX: Fluids, CV joints, Clutch etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Suspension & Steering (EX: Fluids, Struts, mounts, Tires, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Brakes (EX: Fluids, Rotors, Pads, Module etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Electrical (EX: Fuses, Harness, Bulbs, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Heating and Air-conditioning (EX: Freon, Evaporator, Condenser, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Performance (EX: Diagnosing of electrical emissions components and replacement of, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Diesel (EX: Fluids, Filters, Injectors etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Hydraulic Systems (EX: Fluids, Cylinders, Valves, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Air Systems (EX: Air Chambers, Valves, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Provides emergency road service to all municipal vehicles and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Have welding experience with acetylene/oxygen, MIG, and TIG.</p> </li><li> <p>Assembles hoses and other components as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Keeps work area clean.</p> </li><li> <p>Safely uses all types of power and hand tools, lifts, and jacks necessary in performing the task.</p> </li><li> <p>Road tests before to verify concerns, then after assuring the repairs performed meet OEM standards and address the customer's concern.</p> </li></ul> <p>All of the above information is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this position. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.</p> <p>Type of Appointment/Work hours:</p> <ul> <li>Full-time/Regular in-person position. </li><li>Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day or four (4) days of ten (10) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service. </li><li>Will be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. </li><li>Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, if applicable. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Work Environment</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency. </li><li>Must have five (5) years of Medium / Heavy Duty and Large equipment experience as a Technician. </li><li>One (1) to two (2) years of specific vocational preparation in Truck repair. </li><li>Welding experience with acetylene/oxygen, MIG, and TIG Preferred. </li><li>Must own tools to perform necessary repairs. </li><li>Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Must pass a mechanical aptitude test as determined by Fleet Manager. </li><li>Must be certified and maintain certifications as required by local, federal, and state laws; this may include, but is not limited to testing required by specific agencies such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence), Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling (MACS), FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). </li><li>Must possess a valid Florida CDL Driver's License with a clean driving record or be able to obtain a CDL within one year. </li><li>Must pass a background screening process. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Environmental Demands or Conditions:</p> <p>The physical and environmental demands for this position have been listed on the last page of this description.
