The RN support seamless patient care. The RN adheres to all Stamford Hospital's policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program. The RN ensures provision of safe and therapeutic care using the values inherent in our hospital culture.</p> <ul> <li>Provides direct patient care and administers parenteral agents to patients receiving anticancer therapies in the Infusion Suite of BCC. </li><li>Adheres to principles and best practice standards for administration of anti-cancer therapies as outlined in the ASCO/ONS Safety Standards Including Standards for the Safe Administration and Management of Oral Chemotherapy. </li><li>Collaborates with the patient's physician, advanced practice provider, pharmacist, and peers within the Infusion Suite and BCC to develop a plan of care for the patient reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcome. </li><li>Involves patient, family, and health care team in implementing the patient's plan of care. </li><li>Assesses patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care and makes appropriate referrals based on the patient's needs i.e., standard triggers for Social Work and Nutrition interventions, and communicates and documents assessments and referrals in patient's EMR. </li><li>Evaluates patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care, and patient understanding of treatment plan and discharge teaching. </li><li>Documents pertinent information, observations, and all aspects of patient care clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner. </li><li>Based on patient's assessed and documented learning needs, and in collaboration with members of the health care team, the Oncology Nurse provides patient education regarding the patient's schedule of treatment, oral and parenteral therapies administered, symptom management, and psychosocial support. </li><li>Participates in clinical research activities and demonstrates evidence based practice. </li><li>Assures safe and accurate administration of complex chemotherapy regimens. </li><li>Identifies side effects or therapy related symptoms. </li><li>Minimize discomfort to patient during IV access; promote patient confidence in their care and prevent complications associated with therapy. </li><li>Facilitates patient understanding of therapy, self care measures to minimize side effects, promotes wellness behaviors and focus to foster maximum quality of Life. </li><li>Demonstrates strong interpersonal and teaching/learning skills to facilitate patient and family understanding of disease process, chemotherapy treatments and wellness behaviors to assist patients in quality of life. </li><li>Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. </li><li>Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut. </li><li>Minimum 3 years experience ; BSN preferred, experience in oncology required. </li><li>Requires advanced knowledge of principles and practices within the field of nursing and excellent interpersonal skills to deal with critically and sometimes terminally ill cancer patients, as well as patients with hematologic disorders requiring ongoing management. Must be able to demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills. </li><li>BLS Certified </li><li>ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider course required </li><li>ONC certification preferred </li><li>Must possess a reasonable level of skill with computers and information systems such as EHRs. </li></ul>
