<p>Job Description:</p> <p>VAN DRIVER needed at Milford Public Schools</p> <p>PAY GRADE: Per Union Contract</p> <p>UNION: Paraprofessional</p> <p>SCHEDULE</p> <p>8 hour day - 7:15 am - 3:45 pm</p> <p>(30 Minute unpaid lunch - schedule may vary based on student needs)</p> <p>Interested applicants must apply online at www.milforded.org in order to be considered for the position.</p> <p>No phone calls please.</p> <p>SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:</p> <p>Under general supervision, the Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting</p> <p>Milford students and staff to and from schools, work sites, and special trips using</p> <p>PPS vans. This role requires flexibility, attention to safety, and a strong</p> <p>commitment to supporting students' transportation needs.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION: (Duties are Illustrative, not inclusive)</p> <ul> <li>Operates school vans to transport students and staff as scheduled. </li><li>Maintains appropriate student behavior and ensures safety during transport. </li><li>Conduct pre-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance(fueling, carwashes, snow removal) </li><li>Perform safety checks and complete required documentation, including the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report. </li><li>Coordinate with co-workers and teachers regarding daily route adjustments or student needs. Ensure conformance to all applicable safety standards and transportation regulations. </li><li>Participate in required annual DOT inspections. </li></ul> <p>KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Strong communication skills; ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and co-workers. </li><li>Ability to follow route maps and navigation tools via school-issued iPhone. </li><li>Comfortable using basic digital tools, including Google Sheets and Docs. </li><li>Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and student needs. </li><li>Reliable, professional and safety-oriented </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of CT driving laws and school transportation regulations. </li><li>Ability to pass knowledge and skills test and passenger test for a Connecticut Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement. </li><li>Ability to operate a variety of vans, including handicap-accessible and 7 to 9 passenger vehicles. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret maps. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate safety rules/procedures and what consists of acceptable/unacceptable behavior to students. </li><li>Ability to identify and report vehicle or road hazards and maintain a clean driving record. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, trade school, college transcript, etc) </li><li>Safe driving history. </li></ul> <p>LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Valid CT Drivers License with "V" endorsement (or willingness to obtain; training provided if needed) </li><li>Current DOT Medical Certification (must be maintained throughout employment) </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Frequent driving across the Milford district in varying traffic and weather conditions. </li><li>Physical strength to lift 25-50 lbs. </li><li>Prolonged periods of sitting, with occasional climbing, stooping, and kneeling. </li><li>Exposure to a range of temperatures and noise levels. </li></ul> <p>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:</p> <ul> <li>Milford Public Schools-issued vans </li><li>iPhone (for communication and navigation) </li><li>Chromebook </li><li>Gas key </li></ul>
