<ul> <li>This position is an End of Year postion without benefits. * </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures </li><li>Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner </li><li>Plan and implement Physical Education (PE) coursework that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students </li><li>Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in accordance with goals established by the district; establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to students </li><li>Inspire students to prioritize health and fitness in their personal lives </li><li>Teach health classes covering grade-appropriate subject matter such as nutrition, fitness, basic anatomy, and first aid </li><li>Introduce students to a variety of team sports including teaching rules and techniques </li><li>Encourage students to display teamwork and sportsmanship </li><li>Adapt lesson plans and activities to accommodate a variety of students </li><li>Observe and evaluate student's performance and development </li><li>Develop and maintain accurate records </li><li>Maintain inventory of physical education and sport equipment; ensure equipment is safe and in working order. Requests replacement or repairs as needed </li><li>Perform related work as assigned or required </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements </li><li>Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards </li><li>Knowledge of the principles and practices of Physical Education </li><li>Knowledge of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning </li><li>Skilled in communication, both verbal and written </li><li>Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace </li><li>Ability to demonstrate appropriate instructional strategies </li><li>Ability to use or learn specialized tools, equipment, or software </li><li>Ability to evaluate condition of PE equipment and request repair or replacement </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public </li><li>Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships </li><li>Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums </li><li>Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business </li><li>Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field required </li><li>Valid NC Teaching certification or eligible for NC Teaching certification in Health/PE required </li><li>Master's degree in health or K-12 Physical Education preferred </li><li>Prior experience teaching Physical Education preferred </li><li>Equivalent combination of education and experience </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation </li><li>Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements/Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Work often requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights and rarely, the lifting of weights above 30 pounds </li><li>Work regularly requires the exchange of accurate and detailed information through verbal and written communication </li><li>Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment </li><li>The work is usually sedentary but requires standing and walking around the classroom and school. Requires ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work </li><li>Ability to move to other work locations </li><li>Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities </li><li>Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications </li><li>Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and use of advanced technology </li><li>Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions </li><li>The work occasionally handles/works with biohazards and/or risks for potential job-related injury </li><li>Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic) </li><li>Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions </li><li>Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress </li></ul>
