<p>The Financial Counselor performs procedures pertaining to all self-pay patients and patients who have insurance coverage but are unable to pay their out-of-pocket portion. Counsels patients to determine eligibility for programs that are available through the state welfare department and/or the financial assistance program at Woman's Hospital. Works closely with the Office of Eligibility in order to resolve issues that may cause a negative income on the cash flow of the hospital. Devises a payment schedule according to the guidelines of Woman's Hospital. Schedules and oversees the Financial Assistance Committee meetings in order to have documentation ready for review bimonthly. Acts as a buffer when the director and other managers are unavailable in order to prevent issues from escalating.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Certified with State of Louisiana as a Medicaid Application Specialist or obtain certification when the next certification class is available through the State of Louisiana. </li><li>Five years hospital or healthcare business office experience (insurance, pre-certification, collections, Medicaid program of Louisiana, etc.). </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Sees patients in timely manner at Woman's to qualify patients for the Financial Assistance Program or Medicaid. </li><li>Obtains all required documentation and completes application per program imposed deadlines once patient is chosen for possible Medicaid or Financial Assistant Program. All Charity Care letters and/or forms are sent out within 3 days from request date. </li><li>Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the job and the ability to relay relevant information to patients regarding the Financial Assistance or Medicaid application process. </li><li>Visits all potential Financial Assistance patients in their room with the intent of obtaining Financial Assistance or Medicaid applications as needed. </li><li>Utilizes the Epic system every day to ensure all accounts are worked on in a timely fashion and are coded correctly. </li><li>Utilizes vast knowledge of Financial Assistance approval and denial software for all Financial Assistance screenings. </li><li>Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital. </li></ul> <p>Schedule:</p> <p>Full-Time</p> <p>Monday - Friday</p> <p>Pay Range:</p> <p>Hourly/Non-Exempt</p> <p>$17.00 - $24.00</p> <p>A Work Experience with Purpose</p> <p>Woman's is one of the largest specialty hospitals in the country dedicated to the care of women and infants.
