<p>Posting Number FAE1952 Advertised Title Assistant Professor of Social Media Analytics Campus Location Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number 001481 Category Full-Time Faculty Department Journalism and Strategic Media Position Summary</p> <p>The Department of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in social media analytics.</p> <p>We seek a dynamic scholar with a Ph.D. in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field, who is passionate about teaching, research, and industry engagement in social media analytics. The ideal candidate will have expertise in strategic media, with a focus on social media management and analytics. Knowledge of influencer marketing, online advertising, social media/influencer metrics and artificial intelligence.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach courses in the undergraduate strategic media major, with an emphasis on social media analytics, digital strategy, and emerging media trends. </li><li>Teach graduate courses at the master's and doctoral levels. </li><li>Conduct research in the field of social media as a leader in our Obsidian PR Social Media Lab. </li><li>Engage in service to the department, college, and university. </li><li>Advise and mentor students in academic and professional development. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualification:</p> <ul> <li>Experience or strong interest in sports social media. </li><li>APR or other industry credentials. </li><li>Experience in grant-funded research, ideally as a PI or co-PI. </li><li>Experience using social media listening software like Sprout Social, Brandwatch, etc. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Position Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in journalism, mass communication, or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered; degree must be complete by date of hire, August 2026). </li><li>Demonstrated teaching experience or potential in areas related to social media analytics and strategic media. </li><li>Professional experience in social media management, analytics, digital strategy, or a related field. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualification:</p> <ul> <li>Experience or strong interest in sports social media. </li><li>APR or other industry credentials. </li><li>Experience in grant-funded research, ideally as a PI or co-PI. </li><li>Experience using social media listening software like Sprout Social, Brandwatch, etc. </li></ul> <p>Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.</p> <p>Special Conditions</p> <p>Journalism and Strategic Media is a dynamic, ACEJMC-accredited program offering students the knowledge and skills to compete successfully in the changing media landscape while retaining a strong focus on the core values of quality journalism and media. The department has four undergraduate majors - Advertising, Creative Mass Media, Journalism and Public Relations - and a master's program. We offer our M.A. and public relations B.A. online as well as on campus. It is home to UofM's award-winning campus newspaper The Daily Helmsman, the student-run strategic communications agency Meeman 901 Strategies, an active American Advertising Federation student chapter and multiple international exchange programs.
