<p>Job Title: Infection Preventionist (Full-Time)</p> <p>Location: UPMC Hamot - Erie, PA</p> <p>Schedule: Monday - Friday, Day Shift</p> <p>About UPMC Hamot</p> <p>UPMC Hamot is a Magnet-designated, 423-bed hospital and a leading provider of tertiary care in the region. We are currently seeking a full-time Infection Preventionist to join our Infection Control team.</p> <p>A Registered Nurse (RN) with at least five years of nursing experience in an acute care setting and a strong commitment to improving patient safety and outcomes through infection prevention is highly preferred for this role.</p> <p>Title and salary will be determined based on education and experience.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Infection Preventionist is responsible for surveillance, consultation, investigation, and education efforts aimed at detecting, preventing, and controlling infections across the healthcare system. Key responsibilities include reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), providing training and education on HAI prevention, conducting routine unit rounding, and ensuring timely and accurate HAI reporting. This individual collaborates closely with hospital departments to implement infection prevention policies and ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, TJC, the state Department of Health, and other regulatory standards. The Infection Preventionist also works in close partnership with corporate infection prevention teams and local Department of Health (DOH) officials to align on best practices and regulatory requirements.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develop and implement infection prevention and control policies hospital-wide.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct ongoing infection surveillance and analyze data to identify trends and drive process improvements.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership and consultation to interdisciplinary teams for disease control and quality improvement.</p> </li><li> <p>Investigate infection outbreaks and develop control strategies in collaboration with healthcare staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform construction and renovation inspections to ensure compliance with infection control standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Represent Infection Control on internal committees and act as liaison with external regulatory agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and conduct infection prevention education for staff, patients, and families.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure timely reporting of infections through NHSN and to state/local health departments as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform environmental and departmental rounds to assess regulatory compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain and document infection data using electronic surveillance systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Stay current through continuing education and professional development.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology, or a related field preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Two years of infection control or related experience required, OR successful completion of an Infection Prevention Fellowship.</p> </li><li> <p>Basic computer skills required; data management and analysis experience preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>RN licensure required for candidates with a nursing background.</p> </li><li> <p>CIC (Certification in Infection Control) preferred.</p> </li></ul> <p>Licensure, Certifications & Clearances</p> <ul> <li> <p>Current RN license (if applicable)</p> </li><li> <p>CIC certification preferred or willingness to obtain</p> </li><li> <p>Clearances as required by UPMC for healthcare employment</p> </li></ul> <p>Why UPMC Hamot?</p> <p>As part of UPMC, one of the nation's leading health systems, you'll be supported by a culture of excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
