This role plays an essential part in maintaining accurate fiscal records and ensuring the integrity of the City's financial operations. If you enjoy working with numbers, maintaining organized records, and supporting financial processes that serve the community, this opportunity may be for you.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or successful completion of GED required, preferably supplemented by college coursework in accounting or bookkeeping. </li><li>Requires two (2) years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping which must include data entry and automated recordkeeping. </li><li>One year (1) of experience in municipal government accounting preferred. </li><li>Requires knowledge of clerical methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records; previous experience using Microsoft Excel and Word required. </li><li>May be required to possess a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. </li><li>Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. </li><li>Requires the ability to perform administrative tasks with minimal supervision. </li><li>May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends. </li><li>The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules. </li></ul> <p>Click here for a complete job description.</p>
