<p>The Operational Excellence Department at the Syracuse University Libraries is searching for an Operations Data Analyst to play a key role in data analysis, assessment, and metric reporting, and in collaborating with various Libraries' teams and individuals, will communicate insights and support operations. This position also oversees and advances the Libraries' assessment efforts including facilitating a culture of evidence, assessment, and continuous quality improvement by working collaboratively on assessment projects with key stakeholders and partners.</p> <p>The position is also responsible for aiding in data compilation and interpretation for surveys and annual reports. Additionally, this position provides administrative and operational assistance to other Operational Excellence Department areas (Employee Services, Budget, and Facilities and Security). This position will design and deliver training for reporting tools such as Tableau, Springshare, and similar platforms, to ensure staff can effectively access and utilize operational data.</p> <p>SU Libraries / Library</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Required qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science or analytics, Information Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li><li>Three (3) plus years of data analytics, assessment, and academic library experience preferred. </li><li>Experience with database management, data science, research design or equivalent. </li><li>Knowledge of the principles and practices of research and analysis. </li><li>Proven ability to continuously innovate services and processes, particularly through the use of current and emerging technologies. </li><li>Ability to be flexible and adaptable and contribute to a diverse team of staff in a dynamic environment. </li><li>Ability to think critically, and interest in innovation and flexibility with ability to work in a team with minimum supervision. </li><li>Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). </li></ul> <p>Desired qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Commitment to learning new and relevant research tools and techniques when necessary. </li><li>Solid understanding of the academic enterprise, trends, and their implications on libraries. </li><li>Ability to build teams, foster productive partnerships, and effectively collaborate. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <p>Best combination of:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Strong working knowledge of software and other tools to extract data and create reports and visualization, including Tableau, Oracle Analytics, Google Analytics, Power BI, Springshare, Excel, and similar.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to:</p> </li><li> <p>Analyze and evaluate information from a variety of sources.</p> </li><li> <p>Construct and conduct surveys.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare reports, maintain records, and conduct correspondence related to the work.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage the recording, analysis, and reporting of organization-wide, system-level statistical data to ensure consistency, accuracy, completeness, and relevance to MLS goals and objectives. Tracks, analyzes, and provides feedback on trends.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of the following software products:</p> </li><li> <p>MS Office and Microsoft tools</p> </li><li> <p>Tableau</p> </li><li> <p>Oracle Analytics (Alma reporting tool)</p> </li><li> <p>Google Analytics</p> </li><li> <p>Qualtrics (Survey Methods)</p> </li><li> <p>Springshare Lib Guides and databases</p> </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Data Analysis</p> <ul> <li>Maintain and update the Libraries' academic strategic plan metrics in a variety of formats for the Executive Director, Libraries Management Team, and other stakeholders. </li><li>Analyze data and provide summaries, recommendations, and consultation on the use of that data to the Executive Director, Libraries Management Team, and other stakeholders. </li><li>Provide data in a variety of formats to best communicate the information and adjust dashboards as needed. Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications to develop effective, accurate, and appropriate communication about the Libraries impact and value. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues across various departments to effectively collect and store data needed for future analysis and utilize various sources (e.g., the Data Warehouse) for analysis. </li><li>In collaboration with stakeholders, support the creation of survey instruments and reports using appropriate tools, addressing perceived needs and concerns, and contributing to the design of relevant questions. </li><li>Compile, assess, and present survey responses to identify actionable outcomes. </li></ul> <p>Assessment</p> <ul> <li>Design, manage, and lead collaborative assessment projects. Facilitate a culture of evidence, assessment, and continuous quality improvement. </li><li>Identify stakeholders and partners for assessment projects, and regularly share project progress. </li><li>Recognize and clearly communicate opportunities and risks revealed. </li><li>Explore new ways to integrate assessment thinking and approaches into staff activities. </li><li>Consult with library staff as they learn to apply data in their day-to-day decision-making. </li><li>Help build interest in assessment data and narratives. </li></ul> <p>Administrative</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Executive Director with budget analytics. </li><li>Partner with the Library Operations Manager on special projects for data tracking and analysis. </li><li>Act as a backup for the Facilities and Security Manager, overseeing the security office during vacations and assisting with various assigned projects when needed. </li><li>Assist with project management and tracking of project timelines and deliverables. Keep the Executive Director informed on progress. </li><li>Manage and maintain accurate records, build, and maintain databases and reports. </li><li>Research and gather information as needed to support projects and initiatives. </li><li>Participate in and contribute towards the Libraries' and University committees, meetings, and events. </li><li>Maintain professional collaborations with the Libraries' colleagues and other campus partners. </li><li>Contribute to the analysis and assessment profession through active participation in conferences, associations, research, writing, etc. </li></ul> <p>Staff Training and Development</p> <ul> <li>Design and deliver training at a variety of levels of engagement to staff across the Libraries to help facilitate the use of data and culture of assessment.
