Naturally A Great Place to Work!</p> <p>Closing:</p> <p>05/1/2026</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>$48,152 - 77,043 USD Annually</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Work involves planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating leisure service programs focused on nature and the environment. The supervisor will hire, evaluate, and train staff at the nature parks. There is latitude for independent judgment in creating programs and following established policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Recreation, Park & Arts Director.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>All employees share components of leadership, management, technical, and team skills to assist in making the City of Largo the community of choice in Tampa Bay.</p> <p>Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates an understanding and reflection of the City's mission, vision, and values, and a commitment to achieve organizational goals aligned with the City's strategic plan </li><li>Champions a high-performance work culture that encourages and embraces new ideas, develops individuals, and welcomes and encourages diverse perspectives </li><li>Articulates strategic and innovative thinking and provides clarity to deliver superior services </li><li>Approaches the job with enthusiasm and curiosity to promote a solutions-oriented work culture </li></ul> <p>Management</p> <ul> <li>Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities </li><li>Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance </li><li>Directs staff in program development and direct care of children in a nature camp </li><li>Monitors a program budget of expenses and revenues </li></ul> <p>Technical</p> <ul> <li>Plans, implements, and evaluates multiple nature-based programs </li><li>Develops special events by assessing needs, planning and organizing activities, supervising the event, and conducting an event evaluation </li><li>Submittal for Play Catalog and marketing submittal requests for assigned programs; reviews and oversees website updates </li><li>Prepares fliers, brochures, and other marketing materials </li><li>Assists with contract management for instructors, professional services, and rentals </li><li>Monitors facility schedule, work orders, daily inspections, and repair and maintenance issues; conducts event and program set-ups and all activities for opening and closing of the facility </li><li>Supervises team members and volunteers, usage of the recreation system, cash registers, and telephone support; oversees customer service in the office for recreation and park patrons </li><li>Assists with the development and implementation of a facility calendar for programs, building rentals, and special events </li><li>Enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions; evaluates safety concerns and makes recommendations for improvements; reviews all injury and incident reports on assigned shift; maintains order and discipline of participants </li><li>Prepares and processes monthly reports, payroll, purchases, requisitions, program evaluations, personnel paperwork, and correspondence </li><li>Handles recreation system maintenance and updating of activity and facility information </li><li>May prepare and complete grant submittal and follow-up grant reporting, working closely with Recreation Administration </li><li>Responsibilities include coordination of a volunteer program, directing a summer camp, and coordinating nature-themed classes and events </li><li>Develops nature-themed lesson plans and ensures that they are implemented in summer camp and facility programs </li><li>Schedules volunteers and facility maintenance projects </li><li>Collects payments and ensures that program fees are paid by those registered </li><li>Purchases needed supplies for the nature center within an allocated budget </li><li>Conducts daily site inspection of the nature park and center </li><li>Prepares daily cash reports for all transactions at the nature center </li><li>Oversees care and feeding of all animals at the nature park </li><li>Trains volunteers in care and handling of animals </li><li>Make recommendations and maintain facility and program rules and regulations </li><li>Administers first aid or seeks appropriate help; completes injury, incident, and suspension reports </li><li>Sets up equipment and rooms as the program dictates </li></ul> <p>Team Skills</p> <ul> <li>Supports honest and transparent decision-making </li><li>Collaborates with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and takes personal accountability and ownership of projects, roles, and assignments </li><li>Openly exhibits a positive attitude, in words and action, and encourages others to do the same </li></ul> <p>Performs related work as required.</p> <p>EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) with two years of college coursework in environmental studies, ecology, biology, or a closely related field and two (2) years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience </li><li>Credentials required include: CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire; training provided </li><li>Valid Driver's License </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the principles, practices, and philosophies of nature/environmental studies </li><li>Knowledge of animal care and nature-based activities </li><li>Ability to multi-task, maintain budget, lead staff, plan, organize, and implement daily lesson plans </li><li>Ability to observe program participants and behavior to create a safe environment </li><li>Ability to maintain effective relations with children, parents, volunteers, and patrons </li><li>Must have computer proficiency </li><li>Requires good judgment, patience, and problem-solving with participants and volunteers </li><li>Ability to hire, train, and evaluate staff </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Work Environment: 50% inside a climate-controlled building and 50% outside, which may include driving.</p> <p>Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately four (4) hours per day, standing approximately two (2) hours per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds, lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds, and lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds and over.</p> <p>Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in a normal conversation in person and on the telephone. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person, on the phone, and while giving formal presentations to groups.
