This role is best suited for someone with deep expertise in the utilities sector - particularly in power generation, transmission, and substation construction-who thrives in managing large, cross-functional teams and driving complex infrastructure projects to success. The project manager will lead a high-performing team of Controllers, Planners, Construction Managers, and Project Consultants. This role will influence people, leaders and management that directly interface with and oversee power plant and substations construction. This role blends delivery excellence, mentorship, and strategic consulting, with a strong focus on client outcomes, regulatory alignment, and continuous improvement. This role is local to Phoenix, Arizona and requires 3-4 days on-site per week. Employees who are not actively deployed on a client project and reside within a one-hour commute of an Apex branch office are expected to work onsite at least once per week</p> <p>RESPONSIBLITIES</p> <ul> <li>Manage a team of Project Managers (junior to senior levels), Project Coordinators, Schedulers, Planners, Project Controls Consultants and Construction Managers. </li><li>Establish strong relationships with clients, industry professionals, and technical communities. Represent Apex Systems as leaders at industry and professional events, while developing and maintaining a robust internal and external customer relationship. </li><li>Align project execution with client goals, regulatory requirements and safety standards. </li><li>Evaluate the culture and structure of the organization, collaborate with client staff to establish a long-term vision and guiding principles, identify obstacles and impacts of initiatives, and create strategies that ensure project success. </li><li>Develop and implement onboarding, training, and upskilling programs for team members. </li><li>Manage timelines and risk mitigation strategies across concurrent projects. </li><li>Develop an engagement roadmap and related reporting for client delivery. Oversee and ensure all deliverables are met in alignment with the Statement of Work with a focus on exceptional delivery. </li><li>Develop and track metrics to evaluate the performance of the project, including OKRs, KPIs and project success metrics. Create workflows, dashboards, and reports to provide the team with meaningful operational and performance metrics. </li><li>Oversee project lifecycle activities including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout across multiple utility domains. </li><li>Prepare documentation and assist in team development by supporting their commitments, eliminating obstacles, and utilizing organizational resources to enhance project work capacity. </li><li>Develop project plans, manage resources effectively, and adhere to budgetary requirements. </li><li>Facilitate stakeholder engagement, prioritize and manage the sequence of work, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs, while overseeing dependencies among various teams, ensuring seamless integration and delivery. </li><li>Lead and mentor other team members and direct reports. Oversee team day-to-day work priorities, ensure cohesive and high-quality deliverables, meet project deadlines, and take responsibility for engagement and team success. </li><li>Drive continuous improvement in project delivery, resource utilization, and team performance. </li><li>Demonstrate professional level consulting skills, leadership skills, and executive-level communication/presentation skills.
