<p>The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire two part-time Direct Support Professionals who have experience working with Individuals with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities in a Day Support setting for the full-time Direct Support Professional I (DSP) position for our SkillQuest program.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide group day services to adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities, using methods that encourage independence.</p> </li><li> <p>Mobility (prevent falls, use of walkers/wheelchairs, transfers, use of mechanical lift)</p> </li><li> <p>Health care (monitor/report concerns, seizure management, nutrition/hydration, assistance with medications/treatments, teach good health habits)</p> </li><li> <p>Personal Care (use bathroom, eating)</p> </li><li> <p>Leisure (identify interests, adapt activities to meet needs, increase independence)</p> </li><li> <p>Life Skills (cooking, money, hygiene practices, cleaning, advocacy)</p> </li><li> <p>Socialization (teach generally accepted social behaviors, improve communication skills)</p> </li><li> <p>Community integration (utilize public and other transportation, avoid exploitation, identify/use community resources, volunteer)</p> </li><li> <p>Emotional regulation (avoid/defuse crisis situations, prevent harm to self or others, teach anger management/stress reduction techniques)</p> </li><li> <p>Implement Individualized Support Plans (ISPs) and Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) under the direction of the group leader (behavior specialist) and the clinician responsible for the group to assist individuals with reaching personal goals. Documents support provided according to current practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in developing a monthly activity calendar focusing on person-centered group activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Read and provide information daily in communication logs/books for assigned individuals.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide ongoing input to responsible staff regarding changes needed to ISP/IPP and additional information to add to assessments and/or include in the record.</p> </li><li> <p>Drive City vehicles, including wheelchair vans, when appropriately trained to do so. Follow all procedures related to driving City vehicles including accurately recording mileage</p> </li></ul> <p>Available Shifts:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Monday - Friday: 10:00am to 3:30pm</p> </li><li> <p>Monday - Friday: 9:30am to 4:30pm</p> </li></ul>
