The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process.</p> <ul> <li>Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery </li><li>Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking </li><li>Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties. </li><li>Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse </li><li>Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees </li><li>Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care </li><li>Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving </li><li>Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated </li><li>Participates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition) </li><li>Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination </li><li>Utilizes clinical technology as applicable </li><li>Escalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>HS/GED (required) </li><li>Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required) </li></ul> <p>Required Licensing & Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>BLS (preferred) </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred) </li></ul> <p>Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team </li><li>Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team </li><li>Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care) </li><li>Infection prevention and transmission-based precautions </li><li>Team dynamics </li><li>Compassionate, relationship-based approach in care activities </li><li>Accountability for completion of assigned tasks </li><li>Critical thinking </li><li>Advanced problem solving </li><li>Understanding of nursing process </li><li>Professionalism </li></ul> <p>Training:</p> <ul> <li>Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student </li><li>EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred) </li></ul> <p>Mercy Health is an equal opportunity employer.</p> <p>As a Mercy Health associate, you're part of a Misson that matters.
