<p>Position Title University Archivist Location Appleton Department Library Position Type Faculty Position Description & Qualifications</p> <p>Reports to: Director, Seeley G. Mudd Library</p> <p>General Description</p> <p>Under the direction of the Director of the Seeley G. Mudd Library, the University Archivist is responsible for overseeing the operations of the University Archives. This role works with faculty, students, administrators, alumni, and researchers. Additionally, this role serves as a reference librarian and provides service at the library's reference desk. This is a twelve-month library faculty position with rank and responsibilities.</p> <p>Archives Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develops, implements, and maintains policies for the development, management and use of the Lawrence University Archives and related collections. </li><li>In cooperation with other University staff members, coordinates records management policy and procedure review and implementation. Collaborates with University departments on appropriate schedules for retention and disposal of University records in all formats. </li><li>Works with responsible individuals in record-creating departments and offices of the University to provide for transfer of non-current records of permanent value to the archives. </li><li>Evaluates, accessions, and arranges University records and donated collections and prepares descriptions to facilitate their use by researchers. </li><li>Provides reference service for archival holdings. Advises users of the resources available and techniques for using them. </li><li>Collaborates with faculty to provide course-integrated instruction on the nature of archives. Assists in identifying archival collections that students could use for class projects and independent research. </li><li>Serves as a member of Lawrence's Museum Studies Interdisciplinary Area, which may involve curricular development and teaching Museum Studies courses. </li><li>Solicits collections and negotiates with prospective donors regarding materials that complement the collecting priorities of the archives. </li><li>Plans and administers a preservation and conservation program for the diverse types of materials, including born-digital content in the University Archives' collections. </li><li>Develops and administers an outreach program that promotes understanding of the University's history in the campus and larger communities. </li><li>Plans and implements technology related to management of archival collections, including managing digitized and born-digital content. </li><li>Maintains the archives web site, and oversees the Archives' social media </li><li>Supervises and trains student assistants. </li></ul> <p>Reference Services</p> <ul> <li>In rotation with other librarians, provides general reference service in a schedule that may include evening/weekend hours. </li><li>Participates in the library's research appointment service for students, staff, and faculty. </li><li>Helps to maintain and develop collections of digital and physical reference resources. </li></ul> <p>General Library Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Participates in library outreach activities. </li><li>Monitors trends and developments in academic librarianship broadly, and in archives and special collections specifically. </li><li>Attends seminars and training sessions to improve or update skills and knowledge, when appropriate and funds permit. </li><li>Fulfills other job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Library Faculty Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Faculty responsibilities include participating in departmental, library, and University meetings, committees, and events, etc., as appropriate or assigned. </li><li>Participating in statewide, regional, and national professional organizations, as appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Masters degree with an archival specialization or certification from an ALA-accredited library school, or a Masters in Archives (or related degree) from a similarly accredited institution. </li><li>Experience working in archives. </li><li>Commitment to high quality public and technical service. </li><li>Commitment to outreach to the campus and larger communities. </li><li>Ability and desire to energetically promote the archival program. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of undergraduate students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds </li><li>Interest in and/or experience with developing inclusive pedagogies to address the needs of a diverse student body </li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills. </li><li>Sense of humor </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with digitization and understanding of digital asset management and institutional repository systems. </li><li>Knowledge of integrated library systems and archives information management systems. </li></ul> <p>To apply:</p> <p>Applicants should apply online at https://lawrence.peopleadmin.com and submit the following application materials: a cover letter, a resume/CV, and the names and contact information for three professional references.
