<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position Title: English Teacher</p> <p>Position Status: Full-Time</p> <p>Reports To: English Department Chair and VP for Academic Affairs</p> <p>Beginning date of position: August 17, 2026</p> <p>Our Mission: To inspire academic excellence, nurture personal growth, and foster integrity and compassion in students of diverse talents, backgrounds, and beliefs through our Catholic, Holy Cross tradition.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach 5 periods in a rotating 7-period schedule </li><li>Be a teacher advisor for approximately 15 students </li><li>Working hours are 7:50 am to 3:00 pm </li><li>Design lessons for each course taught that are engaging, student-centered, and focused on developing transferable skills such as writing, critical thinking, and presenting to peers </li><li>Assign grade-level appropriate, multi-draft writing assignments, providing student-specific feedback, and assign and manage student writing portfolio reflections </li><li>Design effective formative and summative assessments that measure student learning and that provide students with actionable feedback leading to growth </li><li>Work with students on developing resilience and effective organizational skills </li><li>Teach courses at all levels of ability and have the willingness to teach courses in the field not previously taught </li><li>Provide a representative number of assessments and grades so that students and their families have an understanding of their performance </li><li>Contact parents of underperforming students or where there is concern for their learning </li><li>Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and complying with departmental and administrative protocols </li><li>Keep abreast of developments in both the content taught and new teaching methodologies </li><li>Effectively use technology to enhance student learning, and be aware of the new challenges posed by its use </li><li>Collaborate with the Academic Center and be aware of students with 504s and IEPs, ensuring their accommodations are met. </li><li>Collaborate with members of the department on improvement goals, curriculum mapping, and evaluation thereof, and on all duties assigned by the department chair </li><li>Perform other duties, such as class coverages, attend department and faculty meetings </li><li>Teach an experiential learning course lasting one week </li><li>Arrive at school, classes, and school events on time and with a professional demeanor </li><li>Attend school events such as graduation, parent conferences, and open houses organized by the Office of Admissions </li><li>Be a good representative of the school in and outside of the building and attend events such as plays, athletic competitions, and other extracurricular and cocurricular activities </li><li>Be mindful of posting on social media, as employees of the school are its best representatives </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must have at least an undergraduate college degree in the field from an accredited institution. Advanced degree is preferable but not required </li><li>2-5 years of teaching experience is preferred </li><li>Possesses the ability to engage students and to build rapport </li><li>Possess effective written and verbal communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents </li><li>Demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship- building </li></ul> <p>Application Procedure</p> <p>Interested candidates can email the following documents to rvalencia@notredamehs.com</p> <ul> <li>A cover letter stating intent to apply to a specific position </li><li>An up-to-date resume </li><li>A statement of education philosophy </li><li>Two letters of recommendation from supervisors or teachers who know the applicant well </li><li>Contact information for two additional professional references </li></ul>
