<p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate the overall operation of the swimming lesson program. </li><li>Supervise and directs swimming lesson instructors. </li><li>Assess performance of instructors and complete session evaluations. </li><li>Collaborate with Pool Managers and Recreation Supervisor on scheduling swimming lessons adhering to proper student/teacher ratio. </li><li>Keep accurate records of registration, participant skills completion, and other program related paperwork (reports: accident/ incident, theft, bloodborne). </li><li>Perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking pool sites and monitoring pool deck, locker rooms/ bathrooms, lobby, and hallways. </li><li>Initiate communication to management staff, including pool managers, daily regarding concerns, safety, needs, successes, and functional support. </li><li>Provide high level of leadership. </li><li>Serve as a positive role model to the participants and staff. </li><li>Encourage children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement. </li><li>Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment. </li><li>Teach swim classes, as needed. </li></ul> <p>OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Shall wear distinctive clothing or other means of identification per the City of Appleton Dress Code. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationship with fellow staff members, management staff, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner. </li><li>Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment. </li><li>Attend all required staff meetings and trainings. </li><li>Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff to ensure all department and City of Appleton rules, policies, and procedures are observed and enforced. </li><li>Report directly to and perform any other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor. </li><li>Issues certificates on the last day of class. </li><li>Assist multiple session enrollees with class changes and transfers and communicate with administrative staff of Appleton Parks and Recreation or Recreation Supervisor. </li><li>Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR and WSI Certificate preferred. </li><li>Ability to effectively coordinate and direct the activities of the swimming lesson program. </li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to effectively supervise and train swimming instructors. </li><li>Strong skills in: customer service, oral and written communication, and leadership. </li><li>Ability and/ or experience to work with varied age groups, including children. </li><li>Effective decision-making skills. </li><li>Ability to take direction. </li><li>Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. </li><li>Able to work duration of the program as assigned. </li><li>Shall wear Park and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code. </li></ul> <p>Employment Season: Fall and Winter</p> <p>Work Location: East and West Pool (Jan- April, Sept- Nov)</p> <p>Pay Grade: 4</p> <p>Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED</p>
