Full Time Shift Day Work Schedule Summary VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 01502 - Department of Biochemistry Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range 18.87-21.69 Close Date 03/31/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>The laboratory of Dr. Gregory Ducker in the department of biochemistry is seeking a highly motivated individual to join his group focused on quantitative mammalian metabolism (https://ducker.biochem.utah.edu/). The candidate will perform technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. The position requires working with animals in a research setting.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li> <p>Closely work with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommend modifications as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise the care of research animals; perform animal surgeries and/ or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis. 3. Utilize aseptic technique for successful experiments in mammalian tissue culture.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare, operate and analyze data from a mass spectrometer.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare equipment and rooms for experiments and general lab organization.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct literature reviews to obtain information necessary for research.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain excellent records, both written and electronic, of all procedures and experiments.</p> </li><li> <p>Make statistical calculations, analyze data and prepare reports summarizing results.</p> </li><li> <p>May assist with preparing budgets, protocols, and grant applications.</p> </li></ol> <p>Experimental duties include, but are not limited to: Standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR and bacterial culture, isolation of DNA/RNA /protein, immunoblot, mammalian cell culture and cell assays, lentiviral production and infection, preparation of standard solutions and buffers, animal husbandry, animal surgeries and survival procedures, and complex data and statistical analyses. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).</p> <p>Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:</p> <p>Research Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.</p> <p>Research Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.</p> <p>Research Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.</p> <p>Research Technician, IV: Requires 5+ years of related experience.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <p>The preferred candidate should have a B.S. or higher in chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology. A demonstrated track record of excellence in laboratory techniques is required. Previous laboratory experience working with laboratory animals or mass spectrometry is HIGHLY desired. Willingness to work with laboratory animals is a requirement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in laboratory research during or after their undergraduate studies. The applicant should have a good working knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, as well as basic programming and statistical analyses skills. The applicant should have demonstrated experience in oral and written scientific communication. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated initiative, curiosity and dedication to scientific research, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment.</p> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
