<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION FUNCTION:</p> <p>The Head Men's Basketball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics (AD) and is responsible for the planning, organization, performance and conduct of Onondaga Community College's NJCAA Men's Basketball Team.</p> <p>POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Teach student-athletes about proper basketball skills, techniques and overall fitness; provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of the student-athlete. </li><li>Organize, plan and attend practices; offer appropriate game strategy and tactics; attend all games. </li><li>Act professionally when communicating with players, coaches, staff, media and individuals in the community; show respect to all involved; be responsible regarding student-athlete conduct before, during and after games. </li><li>Be knowledgeable of the College's policies and procedures on recruiting, academic programs and philosophy of athletic programs; follow all policies both internally and externally. </li><li>Promote healthy lifestyle choices and habits to our student-athletes. </li><li>Mentor and advise student-athletes through college registration and the transfer process; ensure that academics comes first. </li><li>Monitor student-athlete academic progress at all times; manage the retention alert software program (Lazer Success) for all men's basketball student-athletes; work with appropriate staff and faculty members to ensure student-athletes receive the academic support they need. </li><li>Have an operational understanding of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and requirements; follow these guidelines at all times. </li><li>Recruit qualified student-athletes to Onondaga Community College. </li><li>Ensure that all members of the men's basketball team are engaged in a meaningful and enjoyable student-athlete experience while they participate on the team. </li><li>With the approval of the AD, hire assistant coaches who are focused on student success </li><li>Work with the AD in preparing annual team operating budgets. </li><li>Supplement team operating budgets with specific fundraising plans and efforts; secure AD approval for these plans. </li><li>Ensure equipment and facilities are secured appropriately after each practice and game. </li><li>Exercise discretion in handling emergencies/injuries which might arise during practices, scrimmages or games; keep the College athletic training staff informed of all injuries. </li><li>Attend all College, conference and regional meetings as required. </li><li>Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification. </li><li>Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalency and prior coaching experience in the sport, preferably at the secondary or post-secondary level or an equivalent combination of training and experience; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Proven success as a head coach; knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations and prior experience coaching at a community college; playing experience at the college and/or at a professional level.</p> <p>Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salary for this position is $10,500 paid annually (9/1-/31 of each year). Person hired for this role will receive the balance of this salary from time of hire-8/31/25.
