HOLD A VALID TEACHING CERTIFICATE IN THEIR TEACHING AREA. SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY FIND APPROPRIATE AND ACCEPTABLE.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL OR HIS DESIGNEE</p> <p>JOB GOAL: TO DEVELOP IN EACH PUPIL AN APPRECIATION OF THE ART OF MUSIC AS PART OF GENERAL CULTURE; TO TEACH TECHNIQUES OF VOCAL OR INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC EXPRESSION; TO DISCOVER AND DEVELOP TALENTS OF PUPILS IN THE FIELD OF MUSIC; TO DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN LISTENING TO AND READING MUSIC.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.</p> </li><li> <p>Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.</p> </li><li> <p>Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.</p> </li><li> <p>Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -- in harmony with the goals -- establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.</p> </li><li> <p>Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.</p> </li><li> <p>Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.</p> </li><li> <p>Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.</p> </li><li> <p>Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.</p> </li></ol> <p>SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (bank, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) teaches all things listed to students. Utilizes courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.</p> </li><li> <p>Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performance.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluates each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.</p> </li><li> <p>Selects and requisitions books, musical instruments, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.</p> </li><li> <p>Cooperates with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates cooperatively with the principal or his designee to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.</p> </li></ol> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Number of days in the school calendar. Salary is to be established by the Board of Education.</p> <p>EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to visually perceive the musical scores.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to perceive aural communication/sounds/music.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to move about the classroom freely (including movement on the permanent and portable risers/staging levels).</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to lift 25-40 pounds of supplies, instruments, equipment, literature, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to read printed and handwritten material.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to hear to communicate with the student.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to monitor the behavior of the students.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to design and present appropriate lessons in multi-media. (Examples: Whiteboard, smart board, related technology and physical demonstrations.)</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to input attendance, grades and other student information in Student Information System.</p> </li><li> <p>Incorporate technology into the learning process.</p> </li></ol>
