The successful candidate will work in the Nebraska Dam Safety Program conducting dam inspections, preparing reports, maintaining dam related geodatabases, developing and maintaining GIS tools and applications, assisting with hydrologic and hydraulic reviews of dams, and related work as required.</p> <p>Please be advised that this position is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon continued funding. DWEE has received continuous grant funding for this position since 2010, however this position will cease to exist if the funding is discontinued. Apply to join our team today!</p> <p>Location: 245 Fallbrook Blvd - Suite #100 - Lincoln, NE</p> <p>Work schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Flexible schedule, 10-hour workdays allowed after six-month probation and/or with management approval.</p> <p>For a complete listing of job duties, requirements and to apply go to statejobs.nebraska.gov</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Conduct dam inspections, take photos and complete inspection checklists and reports. </li><li>Work in a two-person team to perform remote inspection of principal spillway conduits, primarily using a portable pipe crawler inspection system. </li><li>Take aerial photos and videos of dam sites using a drone. </li><li>Drive all-terrain vehicles to access remote dam locations. </li><li>Maintain dam inspection equipment. </li><li>Maintain dam-related files and databases. </li><li>Assist engineers with hydrologic studies and breach inundation mapping. </li><li>Assist engineers with the processing of plan reviews and approvals. </li><li>Perform an initial review of emergency action plans submitted by dam owners. Ensure plans meet Department guidelines and information in plans is accurate and consistent. </li><li>Create, update, and manage hydrologic and hydraulic geodatabases for dams in ESRI GIS. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements/Qualifications:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or a related field OR two years of work experience in a related area.</p> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license or ability to provide independent transportation. </li><li>Ability to do limited overnight travel </li><li>Ability to work in and around water </li><li>Ability to traverse over rough terrain </li><li>Ability to work in varying environmental conditions </li><li>Ability to lift 50 pounds. </li><li>Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance </li><li>Submit a resume or list on the application specific detailed experience relevant to the position in years and months </li><li>Submit a current list of at least two professional references with valid telephone numbers </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <p>Outdoor work experience and experience maintaining work equipment.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:</p> <p>Knowledge of: Mathematics, basic hydrology, and principles of engineering.</p> <p>Ability to: Read engineering plans and specifications; be a self-starter, to work independently or as a member of a team, perform work under tight deadlines, multi-task, and handle backlogs of work, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.</p> <p>Skill in: Technical writing, communicating with the public, conducting and documenting field investigations through written reports and photos, ESRI GIS software, Microsoft Word and Office.</p> <p>"The State of Nebraska values our teammates as well as a supportive environment that strives to promote diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
