<p>Job Description:</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>Framingham State University's Henry Whittemore Library seeks a Cataloging and Metadata Librarian to provide original and complex cataloging for library materials in all formats and oversee the Technical Services Department. Working collaboratively with library colleagues, the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian establishes cataloging practices and priorities; will have deep knowledge of bibliographic data and cataloging best practices; will oversee the creation, modification, and selection of records and metadata for print and digital materials; and ensures prompt access to newly acquired resources.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED:</p> <p>The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will report to Library Dean.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED:</p> <p>The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will supervise a full-time library assistant.</p> <p>Duties include:</p> <ul> <li>Performs original and complex copy cataloging for all formats, including print, non-print, and digital; ensures compliance with cataloging and classification practices, standards, and schema. </li><li>Creates cataloging records in all formats to conform to national standards for all materials; performs associated authority control work; and resolves bibliographic problems associated with materials. </li><li>Creates metadata for e-resources and digital collections using standard metadata schemas. </li><li>Maintains current knowledge of trends in cataloging, subject analysis, metadata, and automation of cataloging functions. </li><li>Manages the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cataloging workflow. </li><li>Oversees all aspects of record quality and catalog integrity. Performs catalog maintenance, including name and subject authority file maintenance. Creates original authority records. </li><li>Compiles and analyzes cataloging data for reporting to internal and external agencies. </li><li>Works with the Digital Services Librarian and University Archivist to plan projects and identify cataloging and metadata needs. </li><li>Support stacks inventory and weeding initiatives, keeping the catalog database in sync with these ongoing activities. </li><li>Supports Library IQ and Aspen Discovery efforts. </li><li>Supervises full and part-time staff. </li><li>Engages in committees, working groups, teams, projects, or other service activities that further the Library's and the University's missions. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>A Master's degree in Library or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association. </li><li>Two years of post-credentialed professional cataloging and metadata experience in an academic library. </li><li>Broad knowledge of cataloging and metadata workflows and services. </li><li>Knowledge of cataloging and classification practices, standards, and schema including: MARC, RDA, AACR2, LCSH, MeSH, NLM, LCC. </li><li>Knowledge of tools and resources for cataloging including: OCLC Connexion and/or WMS, ClassWeb, RDA Toolkit. </li><li>Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at a faculty rank commensurate with experience and credentials.
