<p>Cook County</p> <p>Sheriff</p> <p>Job Code: 0047</p> <p>Job Title: Warrant Clerk</p> <p>Salary Grade: 14</p> <p>Department: Sheriff's Police Department</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: SEIU Local 73</p> <p>Position Details: Civilian (non-sworn) / non-merit ranked / internal & external candidates</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Probation Period: 180 Days</p> <p>Designation - SEAM EE: Not Applicable</p> <p>Characteristics of the Position</p> <p>General Overview</p> <p>The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department Emergency Communications Center, located in Des Plaines, Illinois is seeking applicants for the position of Warrant Clerk. Clerks receive warrants from the Cook County court system and are responsible for the maintenance of warrants in various databases including Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (L.E.A.D.S.) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Clerks work together, in a team environment, and manage warrants.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities and Duties</p> <p>Receive data from the Cook County court system including new warrants, executes, quashes and recalls. Processes warrant packets that include background criminal history information for warrant entry. Conducts additional research on warrants to ensure proper information is entered into databases.</p> <p>Cancel, enter, modifies, queries and validates databases in different computer programs such as LEADS, NCIC, IWIC, CLEAR, CLEARNET, Passport and Odyssey.</p> <p>Organize hard copies of warrant packets including file maintenance.</p> <p>Exercise skill in the coding, screening, sequencing, filing, copying, proofing, logging and cross-referencing of routine and complex data via hand, computer or other format (microfilm, tape, etc.); Reviews assembled material for completeness, clarity and accuracy; reconciles discrepancies by looking up data in files, cross-referencing other data and records, conferring with senior staff or telephoning other offices as required.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Skill and proficiency in the use of keyboard as applied to the operation of computer terminals. Ability to work in multiple type of computer databases.</p> <p>Good attention to multifarious detail, ability to proof, verify and edit complex data, transcribe and cross reference data from computer screen and documents, ability to follow-up in a thorough and timely manner relative to unresolved business.</p> <p>Thorough knowledge of correct language usage, punctuation and grammar, and their proper application to business forms, letters and technical records; knowledge of technical or legal terms and their proper spelling, where applicable.</p> <p>Skill and accuracy in the control, organization and maintenance of files and records according to various methods.</p> <p>Good communication skills; ability to gather information from others and make inquiries; ability to convey information and explain or describe basic office policy and procedure to others in person or by telephone.</p> <p>Skill in exercising sound judgment relative to problem solving and referring problems in the appropriate manner.</p> <p>Skill in the operation of standard office equipment.</p> <p>Ability to understand and carry out instructions, written and verbal, and accurately relate such instructions in full or part to others.</p> <p>Ability to coordinate several tasks and perform well under pressure, plan and conduct multiple assignments within specified time frame/deadlines; ability to fill in for and perform the duties of lower-level clerical staff as needed; ability to relieve higher level clerical or secretarial staff.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) test certificate.</p> <p>A minimum of one (1) year, full time professional work experience utilizing skills, knowledge and abilities comparable to those characterized herein and applicable to area of assignment.</p> <p>Typing skills (35 w.p.m. and 90% accuracy) and familiarity with computer keyboards and data inputting, clearly legible handwriting, proficiency in spelling. Skill testing is required for this position</p> <p>This position is located at the Sheriff's Police Emergency Communication Center in Des Plaines, Illinois.</p> <p>Required to be capable of working any shift assigned; must be capable of working Holidays and/or weekends, if required; must be capable of working overtime, if required. Must have flexibility with regards to work hours and location.</p> <p>Current position openings include shift work with weekend coverage. Shift hours are from 14:30 - 22:30 with either Sunday/Monday off or Friday/Saturday off. This is subject to change as shift coverage is expanded in the future.</p> <p>Required to successfully pass, within one (1) month of hire, a LEADS Certification (Law Enforcement Agency Data System) and maintain re-certification, required every two (2) years.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>One or more years of experience with LEADS/NCIC full access that includes file maintenance tasks such as cancel, enter, modify, query and validate records.</p> <p>Currently holds a LEADS certification.</p> <p>The duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
